Thailand's Coral Reefs Face Severe Damage from Climate Change

Thon Thamrongnawasawat, an experienced marine biologist, reports with alarm the severe changes happening in Thailand's coral reefs due to climate change. Thon shared his observations on Facebook, reminiscing about the vibrant marine life these reefs used to shelter, and warned about the extensive harm caused by global warming over the past six years.

Increasing sea temperatures have resulted in unusually low tides and high sunlight intensity, consequently causing widespread coral bleaching. Despite attempts to recover, ongoing heat and solar exposure have caused significant coral death. Under normal conditions, recovery could happen within 7-8 years, but current environmental hazards have made it difficult.

Warming water events have progressively weakened the corals, triggering a steady loss of habitat. The corals that remain and the marine life they support face a bleak future unless water temperatures decrease.

Thon's posts reveal the serious state of thousands of reefs across Thailand and the potential extinction of a multimillion-year-old ecosystem known for its beauty and biodiversity.

He urged people to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and embrace eco-friendly practices, like utilizing less waste, avoiding endangered species consumption, and promoting sustainable businesses, to help alleviate this marine calamity.

Public reaction to this crisis has been a combination of distress and resolve. While some are overwhelmed by climate change’s vast implications, others remain committed to protecting the ocean. Thon believes that immediate action to address climate change and safeguard the oceans is essential, as Thailand’s coral reefs' very survival hangs in the balance, with the chance to save them fast disappearing.

Cue: "Global warming is a hoax!"

The real question should be - who is funding Khun Thon’s Marine Biology research and what is his evidence for making a seemingly unsubstantiated link between the state of the coral and supposed rises in sea temperature.

Climate change has been charged with environmental damage by the RTP Marine Div. Warrants have been issued. Fines in excess of 5000 that are possible as well as incarceration, and deportation.

If the Earth is warming itself up, that can be called global warming. Climate change is also  happening with El Nino and the

other La Nina. Extra CO2 in the air still can be measured, but it is still a trace gas of less than one half of one percent of the total atmosphere.

Another trace gas is Methane, look up the facts on google before having a climate alarmist try to tell you about the dangers of these trace gases.

I am sorry if coral reefs are in danger of warmer ocean levels, Maybe we should all thank China, Russia and the other nations

that are pumping lots of CO2 into the atmosphere. Volcanoes must be sending lots of CO2 and other gases into the atmosphere as well.

IMO

I suggest you do some internet research yourself. The amount of CO2 may be very small, but it still has a significant affect. It is hard to completely separate the effect of CO2, because other greenhouse gases also tend to go up as it gets warmer (water vapour rises with temperature). If there were no greenhouse gases, the average earth temperature would be about zero centigrade.

This article puts the effect of doubling CO2 levels since pre-industrial times as between 2.6 and 4.1 degrees centigrade. We are already half way there to doubling, and temperature is up by about 1.2 degrees so far .

https://www.nytimes.com/2020/07/22/climate/global-warming-temperature-range.html

Volcanoes - insignificant about 200 million tons, compared to 24 billion tons from Mans activities.

https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/earthtalks-volcanoes-or-humans/#:~:text=According to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS)%2C the, billion tons of CO2 emissions every year worldwide.

I do wish people would stop writing crap, because they just do not know.

And, currently there is a global coral bleaching event underway, not just Thailand, although level of damage is not yet certain.

The potency of CO2 as a greenhouse gas was proved in the 19th century by the eminent Irish Physicist, John Tindall. Have you been sleeping for the past 150 or ss years?
