Really! How many climate predictions have been massively wrong? 20, 30, 40++. Great lakes dry~ highest levels on record, no ice caps ~ ice cap growth, polar bear extinction ~ growth in population so much so they are breading with brown bears.... oh let's not talk about islands underwater, London under water, miami coastline underwater, that's the area certain cult members have multi million dollar beach front property! Anyone feeling stupid yet?

we seem to lack the ability to discern irony.

The sea not rise its bkk that sink as it buildt on clay and sand from the river and the Buildings are to heavy as they get more and bigger.

Can you provide any factual evidence for this opinion?

During WW2, they were going to move to Phetchabun, but the war ended. They didn't come nor has the railway and the airport has no flights, so, perhaps they will have to become the next Amsterdam

Subsidence is the more direct issue. You cannot pump out the groundwater and not expect the surface level to drop. That is one of the larger drivers for Jakarta government relocation. I understand that Bangkok has a similar issue.

I remember reading an article about the subsidence problem at least 50 years ago. Nothing has been done about it since.

And they just built all new government buildings a few years back.   Wait till they start falling apart before moving.

Rising seas or sinking into the swamp city ....

The weight of all the buildings, and the pumping of ground water is the cause, not rising seas ... IMHO.   Google the World Econonic Forum's vid "Bangkok is sinking under the weight of its own skyscrapers"

As I'm not allowed to post FB vids, but a few snapshots from the vid.

And who's fault is it ... NOT CLIMATE CHANGE...IMHO & OTHERS THAT CONTROL ALL THINGS

Unfortunately, the WEF seems to have relied upon an article in the Bangkok Post, which originated from AFP. Their quoted sources include someone from Greenpeace, a "climate expert" from Chulalongkorn University, and someone from the Bangkok Drainage Department. No-one who really understands the problems or the engineering. They do not even understand what happens when you fill in khlongs, or other low lying areas for building. As someone who has designed and constructed foundations for 50 years, including high rise buildings in Bangkok, there is no way that the weight of the buildings is causing measurable settlement. Most of the on-going surface settlement is due to past water extraction, and is loswing down as the water extraction has drastically reduced.

This is a fantastic idea, the more toxic, corrupt, heinous govt. officials that can be moved out of Bangkok, the better. Why not, it might ease a little bit of congestion, after all those self important guys are escorted by five or six police cars or motorbikes. They deserve one off duty cop, getting paid overtime, on a Honda 125. Go ahead and send them to Mukdahan. Or the moon.

When the Netherlands can keep a part of a city, 6 mtr below sea level called Alexanderpolder and part of Rotterdam, dry, Thailand cannot keep a city dry just 1 mtr below sea level ?  About 1/3 of Netherlands lies below sea level, with the lowest point being 22 feet (6.7 meters) below sea level.

This tiresome old gem again. Te NL has about 30-40% of Thailand's rainfall and it is pretty evenly spread throughout the year. ie. it is inconsequential.

Thailand gets about 2.5-3 times the NL's annual rainfall and it generally happens over 4-5 months with the rest being bone dry. In a bad month the NL may get 80mm of rain. Thailand can easily get more than that in a day

Dump Thailand's rain on the NL and see how their flooding is. Conversely, give Thailand and its infrastructure the NL's weather and you would never even step in a puddle.

Not saying the NL doesn't have good systems - they do. But compare apples with apples. Oh, and just waiting for someone to come along with the myth that Thailand rejected the NL's offer of expert help.

It would be easier and cheaper just to raise Bangkok by a meter or two, by injecting water deep underground.

What KIND of water?

Salt water?

Where would you get this water?

From the sea?

What caused the subsidence in the first place????

Were they not pumping underground water OUT?

So, now you want to pump it back in?

Are you sure that you have thought this out...thoroughly?

Sounds like a Harebrained Scheme, to me.....!

Nothing new here regarding relocating the capital.  It's been bandied about for years.

Nakhon Ratchasima had been earmarked but nothing will happen in my lifetime.

I think they will build dykes.

Climate change will be solve some day  ,if not we'll be in big trouble

Well, if Bangkok has to be totally relocated, there is lots of land in the Khaio Yai area that is well above sea level.

If the capital has to move again, then slowly move it somewhere well above the sea level.

There are areas of Bangkok that are well more than a few meters above sea level, and yes the Chaopraya river still flows to the golf of Thailand.

Solved.

There are indeed ignorant nincompoops on this forum, that continually try to scare us with "science", but IMO are failing completely to convince anyone with sense.

Is climate changing- Yes

Are there storms and natural catastrophes- Yes

Have the above been going on as long as the planet cooled- Yes

Did we cause it- :whistling:

Climate has changed as long as the planet existed, and will continue to do so till the sun expands and burns it to a cinder.

Perhaps humans will learn to adapt to climate change, or not. If not, well we will be just another extinct species.

You are going to upset a lot of people on here posting evidence......please desist.

LOL. His little charts don't say that it was caused by humans, nor do they say if the change is reversible, or slowable.

The climate is what it is, the sea will rise, or not, storms will increase, or not, droughts will happen, or not, but it's not within our power to change nature. Driving an Elon car only makes Elon richer, and it will make zero difference to climate.

AFAIK your qualifications and experience with "science" consists of being some kind of retired nursing assistant.

I suppose next, you'll be posting advice on neurosurgery for glioblastomas, given your extensive background in medicine.

  • 3 weeks later...

I'm a denialist, and I have to admit, my last post about rising sea levels was wrong.   Now I've seen the Gulf in lower than last time, which I thought it was the lowest.

23+ years of coming to Gulf a couple times every year, at different times of the year;  Xmas/NY, Mar/Apr/May, Sept/Oct & June for HH Jazz Festivals, and this is the lowest I've seen.

Scientist can spew all the funded BS they want ... IMHO

But my eyes sure are telling me a different story.   I know which one I believe.

No the scientists got it right.

The year 2023 was the warmest year since global records began in 1850 at 1.18°C (2.12°F) above the 20th-century average of 13.9°C (57.0°F). This value is 0.15°C (0.27°F) more than the previous record set in 2016. The 10 warmest years in the 174-year record have all occurred during the last decade (2014–2023).

Capital cities removed from large population centers are easier to control when citizens protest.  My guess would be some highly unpopular decrees are in the pipeline and our overlords are looking out for their own necks.

All the beach locations I have been to as a child all look the same now many decades later.
