Don't get drunk and obnoxious in bars, or pick a fight with staff.

... So predictable, I could have written your response for you word for word!

Unfortunately, nothing can happen unless someone makes a complaint. This is the law in Thailand.

Looks like these thugs will walk, and we know what happens then... they will be free to hurt and probably kill someone else in the future.

Just another night in Pattaya, sorry, fight

According to British press only one, if so the guy who's head was used as a football.

So what's preventing the other one from filing charges?

You thought wrong. Thai law defines prostitution and sex work differently, though extremely few posters are aware of it and so make fatuous claims constantly. Exchanging sex for money is quite legal, just as it is elsewhere.

Out of pure curiosity, how does the law differentiate between the two?

That seems like a load of baloney in  the presence of so much video evidence. Would this be the case had one of them died?

So if the victim (any victim) passes away (God forbid) the Thai Police are still powerless to charge the assailant?

Is that a hypothetical question?

I'm not getting into that again, mainly because posters ignorantly bring up the old law, bring up sources based on the old law, or they absolutely love to argue with the Thai law itself based on their definition. @bert bloggsused to devote some effort explaining the way Thai law narrowly defines prostitution, and even he gave up as well. He hasn't logged in a long while; I fear, as he seemed a good man, he may have succumbed to his health issues. The police, BTW, don't always strictly follow the law (surprise!) in making mass sweeps that are actually based on "suspicion" and the desire to present a clean image for the better class of tourists TAT is forever trying to attract.

Yes it does. White shirt is walking backwards with guard rushing towards him. White shirt trys to push him away and guard clocks him with the first punch thrown

It seems you haven't seen all the CCTV and have outrun the evidence again.

You may have missed one of the video clips where security initially arrived, and it appeared one of the customers was pushing and a security guy got hit in the nose...

If Thais go to your country, do you expect them to adapt to the local culture?

Not if they're just on holiday, as they are unlikely to have any idea what the local culture is!

True, but most of the bashers on this thread are not tourists.

In civilized countries, the justice system work to protect victim who may actually be afraid to file charges in fear of retribution and future attacks.  So in civilized countries, the state prosecutors file the criminal charges for criminal assault and battery.

Here?  If you're afraid someone may kill you if you file charges, its a pretty scary incentive not to act.  I wonder if they have had a friendly Thai advise them not to file charges.  Perhaps given an offer they can't refuse.  Like, "nothing bad will happen to you if you just drop it and go away."  🤔

"Here" meaning Pattaya? Pattaya's culture isn't exactly reflective of Thai culture, is it?  If you mean Thailand as a whole, then other than taking their shoes off before entering temple, not really.  They're on holiday!

Despite the severity of the assault, Pattaya police have not detained the security guards involved. Sergeant Major Arthon of the Pattaya City Police Station explained, “We can only pursue a case if a complaint is filed.

If both victims went away and died from their injuries, there will be no complaints from them and no need to detain the security guards.

It seems police are aware the Helicopter Bar is owned by British nationals. So why haven't they investigated the ownership structure and arrested the owners and their Thai nominees for flouting the foreign business law?  Police in resort areas have been ordered to crack down on businesses illegally controlled by foreigners.  I guess we know the answer to that one.

The Helicopter Bar says on their Facebook and Instagram pages that they are an "Independent" bar. The bar posted about the incident on their Facebook page earlier today.

Have you ever actually been to one? Sounds like the advice one gets from those who dream of, but never go to, these places. Seriously - if you're this paranoid best just stay home.
