Phuket Tourist Police busted a trio for operating an illegal cable installation scheme aimed at broadcasting Chinese TV channels. The arrests took place after officers received a tip-off and raided an apartment roof on Yaowarat Road in Phuket Town. Caught red-handed were two Chinese nationals, Wang Hao, 29, and Zhang Shaowen, 49, alongside Myanmar national Chit Ko Oo, 22.

Sittichai Klapdee, a Thai national present at the scene, confessed to supervising the workers. He admitted to transporting them daily. An investigation revealed that the foreigners were illegally installing cable systems to provide Chinese television programming to local residents.

Wang entered Thailand on a tourist visa on May 18, valid until June 16, while Zhang's visa was valid from May 4 until June 2. Through a Chinese interpreter, both men confessed to working for just two days, with the promise of a 40,000 baht monthly salary from Bangkok-based Yong Thong Company, paid via WeChat.

Chit Ko Oo entered Thailand legally on May 2. Through an interpreter, he revealed that he had been on the job for nine days, earning 15,000 baht monthly, paid by Wang. None of the workers held valid work permits, making their employment illegal under Thai law.

All three were taken to Phuket Tourist Police headquarters for further questioning and verification of their visa statuses. After confirming their illegal employment status, they were transferred to Phuket City Police Station and formally charged.

In related developments, Thai immigration authorities are increasing efforts to crack down on illegal migrant workers. A recent operation in Bangkok's Ratchathewi district focused on immigrants allegedly encroaching on local professions, aiming to protect the livelihoods of Thai nationals.

This incident underscores Thailand's efforts to regulate foreign labour and maintain local employment standards.
