Australia's 3G network is shutting down, come the end of August 2024 and any phone and digital

equipments working/using 3G will be a toast good only for recycling, Millions of 3G devices including vending

machines and pay stations will stop working on August 31, even my 2 years old Redmi Note 11 i have bought in

Thailand will be worthless, and as a results millions of phones and other digital

equipments in Australia can be bought dirt cheap...

Why would a 4G enabled phone be worthless when the 3G networks shuts down?

Then it isn't a Redmi note 11, because the global version supports LTE/4G and the China version 5G. There is no 3G redmi note 11

Are you able to roam with an Aussie SIM for OTP purposes etc?

My Redmi has also been banned in AU and wondering if it will work in roaming mode when I get to Thailand.

Why does/would a phone get banned in AU?

According to them some phones purchased overseas default to 3G when dialing emergency services. Of course they only do minimal testing of individual makes, they just blacklist certain IMEI ranges at whim. Thus, perfectly good 4G/5G phones become landfill.
