I only arrived in Thailand permanently two weeks ago.

And joined this forum to get visa advice which was top rate.

 

But this forum seems to be more about Brits behaving terribly in Thailand more than visas. Murders, running up sexual service bills and refusing to pay, assaults, sexually assaults on kids, human trafficking, working illegally

etc

 

And that is just what is reported, it is probably 100 times worse.

I have to say this entitled behavior by my fellow countrymen is very embarrassing for me. 
 

We hate immigrants behaving badly in England and are quick to criticize.
But it seems we are worse. A lot worse. 
 

what is wrong with us?? The Thais are so lovely and so many of us treat them terribly.

We should be showing gratitude and respect. 
 

I hope they deport him and all the other trouble makers.

Sounds like you are trying to shift the blame from the Brit attacker to the Thai who was just doing his job? 
 

Perhaps that is part of the problem with us, we can not admit when we are in the wrong? Which goes back being “entitled”

No excuses possible....  This guys a 'scum on a short fuse'....      I'm not part of the 'anti-brit' brigade, but I am most certainly part of the 'anti-ayhole' and would happily see such characters charged with assault, serving a penalty for assault before being deported...

Just remember that only bad news sells.

100s of thousands (millions) of Brits live and visit here and nothing happens. Even when we do good things.

That does not appear in the blogs or papers.

Around my end of town (western suburbs of Bangkok) I might go several months without seeing another Westerner. As for the places I visit for shopping and physicians, there are rarely any there either. Good ole Matthew here exemplifies why I like it that way and am in no hurry to socialize or even be in the same building with other Westerners. Hotheads they are.

If you read these forums regularly you will find the most of the problems (though not all of them) are concentrated in the areas of most tourism, such as Pattaya, Phuket, the southern islands, but rarely elsewhere.

 

Most of the farangs of all nationalities living outside of these areas cause few if any problems. They are generally married to Thai ladies and have families of their own, or are retired. They get on well with their Thai neighbours and cause no problems for anyone.

 

If you stay with the forum you will find that the majority of posters are normal, some are pedantic, some are grammar nasties and some are simply not worth bothering with.

The forum is "AseanNow", what makes you think that the emphasis of the forum should be on visas?

This forum changed its name a few years ago.

 

Back in 2003 when I joined the forum it was called the Thai Visa Forum and is probably still called that by some of the older members, such as me.

This is an expatriate forum so naturally its news sections tend to report incidents involving expats, and does not tend to report  the countless incidents involving only Thais which can readily be found in the Thai media. 

 

News in general, everywhere   reports the unusual and problemstic. "Man lives peacefully in his village with no problem"  does not make the news anywhere.

 That may well be true but us Brits make up less than 10% of the total number of tourists here and seem to making up 90% of these unsavory incidents sadly.

 It is a very helpful forum for someone like me who is new here. 
If you can not find something you can just ask and get helpful information.

Most murders, and sexual assault of kids often by teachers, is committed by Thais. not Brits. Someone was murdered for 20 baht last week. Be careful out there.
