What do you call this adapter?

Recommended Posts

I'm searching on "adapter 220v to 12v usb type a" and coming up with nothing on Lazada and Shopee.  My wife is using one that is getting too hot for my comfort. It is cheap.  I want to buy a couple of these but I'm having zero luck at finding them online.  What do you call this:

Fast/Quick charger Type A.

Type C are generally more powerful.

It's called USB power adapter.

Buy only from a brand name and from a trusted shop.

There are many cheap and dangerous adapters out there which might kill you.

i.e. this one is ok:

Read without clicking through. It's just the lead that is Type C

No need to buy brand names. You just pay more for nothing. But don't buy the cheapest either.

You also need to know how many amps are required for the device, as well as voltage.

Input parameters: 100-240V, 50/60Hz, 0.7A

Output parameters: 5V 3A / 9V 3A / 12V 2.25A / 20V 1.35A / 10V 3A
Power: 33W

Are the specs for the one linked to by @OneMoreFarang

OP can check if it suits their equipment. That one is for charging certain Xiaomi phones and Tablets.

I figured it out.  It's a Quick Charger/Power Adapter 5V/2A.  I use it for charging an old Oppo A37 that I keep around as a spare as well as charging a couple of Bluetooth speakers and headphones that I have.  USB Type A to USB micro.  I've found a couple on Lazada.
@OneMoreFarang Lots of cheap fakes out there claiming to be original VOOC brand.  Actually I may just go to an Oppo kiosk the next time I'm at Big C and just buy on original.  But I need to replace my wife's which is getting hot (cheap knock-off).  Wife doesn't grasp safety over price so I've got to do this myself.

One reason is because you don’t want to buy another one that gets hot.

Mine isn't a brand name and runs cool. That's why you don't buy the cheapest, but ones that conform (or at least claim to conform) to certain specifications. Doesn't have to be a brand name, you can buy from a reputable supplier, as I did.

It's almost funny when people who have no idea what they are talking about make stupid suggestions.

Many cheap adapters are dangerous and possibly deadly.

Maybe try to learn a little before you continue to make posts like above.

This guy tested many many adapters. Watch and learn!

Yes, it's almost funny when people who do not know how to read, but only to watch YouTube make replies BEFORE learning to read.

I WROTE, do not buy the cheapest, but from reputable suppliers. Maybe you can get a friend to read that and explain it to you.

I then went further in linking to a reputable supplier that isn't a big brand name. Clearly you could not have read and understood, if you have followed up by posting a video featuring the cheapest adapters from AliExpress.

I'd say buy only Ugreen for that kind of stuff.

Many adapters all look the same, but they are often very different from each other.

Old adapters only had to supply 5V and 500mA = 0.5A.

New, sophisticated adapters "ask" the device what it wants and then they supply different voltages. And some supply up to 65W - I think that is the max in the moment.

Not every device needs 65W.

A good example are modern phones. They can be charged with an old adapter. It likely takes many hours. With a new adapter with higher output it might be charged withing 30min or so.

Good adapters have overload protection. They don't get too hot. If they get hot, then a good adapter recognizes that and reduces the output or switches off. A bad adapter just gets hot and maybe destroys itself.

Last but not least there are many different kinds of cable. Not just the plugs are different but also the size of the cables and connection. And many cables look all the same. It's impossible to look at them and know if they are good or not.

A new charger with an old or not suitable cable will not supply higher voltage and higher power.

That's why it is a good idea for technically not so interested people to buy brand name products from reputable suppliers.

...and that is why the technically so interested people can point to equally good product for less. No need to pay for a 'big brand' name unless you don't know any better.

And do you think that the guy in the original post knows the technical details?

And do you think he knows many brands?

If he has a Samsung phone, then it's easiest for him to buy a Samsung adapter in a Samsung shop. Or similar for other brands. Maybe it costs 100B more, but who cares?

You, the specialist, can use your advanced knowledge and buy only adapters which are maybe 50B cheaper. Wow, great, how impressive.

And not to mention the flood of Chinese sub standard products with high specifications labeled. It’s pretty weedy out there.

Detailed Explanation Of USB Connector Port Types | Apphone

Type A is only 5volt.

Do you mean 12 watts?

don't buy Chinese made like I do on Lazada or Shopee  ....

everything I buy breaks, burns out or stops working after 6-12 months

2 X Fans -   stopped working  ( the recent one is only 6 months old and stopped )

Tablet -  stopped working -  10 months

Electric kettle -  leaked at the switch

4 x mobiles -   all stopped working or no updates etc.. can't use.

USB adaptors - I have at least 8    ... 4 are useless and don't work.

Re-chargable mini drill socket/driver set small -   stopped working after 7 months,  cannot recharge.

Power meter -   stopped working

Soldering Iron -  stopped working

Lots of brand name manufacturers have production in China, with good quality.

China is not really the problem. People have the choice of what they buy. And nobody should expect high quality for cheap products.

Sure he meant watts. Of which personally prefer to a 5w block, helps keep the battery cooler.

We are here to help give pointers if necessary. I helpfully posted the details of the adapter to which you linked and added that that a big brand name doesn't mean that you'll get a better charger. You can get similar or better quality for less. That seems to have sent you into an apopletic frenzy. Ranting about the cheapest adapters blah blah balh....

But they are reputable manufacturers/distributors who sell high quality products. I linked to one and was backed up by another poster.

Instead of you gracefully accepting that the OP can choose from the reasonable options given, you've gone quite loopy, ranting about saving fifty baht etc.

Take it easy or you'll give yourself a heart attack.

UGreen has been around for a while and they guarantee their products. Same as the big brands. Why not take a look, instead of hunting around for videos to prove a point that has already been made? Buy reputable products from reputable suppliers....but it doesn't have to be from a 'global' brand.

Why do you feel the need to argue with that?
