Heavy rain, strong winds wreak havoc in Pattaya and Na Kluea

Heavy rain and strong winds battered the coastal areas of Pattaya and Na Kluea today, causing significant damage to property and infrastructure.

 

The Meteorological Department of Thailand predicted heavy rain in 80% of the area, focusing particularly on the Eastern region and Bangkok. Additionally, the Southern Andaman coast and the Gulf of Thailand were expected to experience waves up to 2 metres high.

 

In Soi Na Kluea 27, a massive pine tree, standing over 20 metres tall and approximately 40 years old, was uprooted due to the intense winds and rain.

 

The saturated soil could no longer hold the tree, causing it to fall onto a residential home and severely damaging the roof and property. Officials acted swiftly to cut down the fallen tree and restore normalcy.

At a commercial building in Soi Na Kluea 16, the strong winds blew off the roof of a large structure spanning more than ten metres in width and length. Remarkably, the roof landed on high-voltage power lines but did not cause any injuries. Local officials coordinated with a crane to safely remove the debris, preventing further hazards to the public and tourists.

 

Residents and businesses in the affected areas are urged to remain vigilant as the storm continues to impact the region. Emergency services are on standby to address any further incidents. As of 11.30pm, yesterday, July 29, Bangkok Time, the area has mainly been experiencing only light rains.

In related news, a daring thief was caught on security cameras sneaking into an apartment building in Pattaya’s Soi Buakhao and breaking into unlocked rooms to steal valuables. The incident, which occurred in the early hours of July 20, was documented on security footage later released by the apartment owner to alert the public.

Local reporters visited S.B. Apartments in Soi Buakhao after the footage, which shows the thief attempting to open multiple room doors, was shared on social media. The thief, believed to be Thai and between 30 and 35 years old, arrived on a motorcycle and prowled through the building from the ground floor to the third floor, trying door handles along the way.

Weird, in South Pattaya where I live it was a bit breezy with mostly light rain, nothing that would cause any damage. It just shows how localised these squalls can be.
