Ex-Move Forward Members Set to Launch New Political Party

Just hours after the Move Forward Party was dissolved by Thailand's Constitutional Court, its former key members announced that they will unveil a new party this Friday to continue their political efforts.

Sirikanya Tansakun, deputy leader of the now-disbanded Move Forward, hinted that the new party might continue to address the controversial Article 112 of the Criminal Code, which led to Move Forward’s dissolution.

She stressed that the court ruling does not explicitly ban amendments to the article. “Everyone believes that the article is problematic. But we need to discuss it in more detail when we move to our new home,” she said during a news conference following the court’s decision.

Sirikanya is speculated to lead a backup political party, strategically prepared for such an eventuality. “We will move on and will not abandon the mission assigned to us by the people as long as they support us,” she stated.

Before its dissolution, Move Forward had 148 MPs. Five, who were part of its executive committee, lost their MP status due to the court ruling. The future alignment of the remaining MPs remains uncertain, with some expected to join parties in the coalition government.

Former party leader Chaithawat Tulathon, speaking at the press conference, described the court’s judgement as “setting a dangerous precedent for constitutional interpretation and laws.” He warned that the verdict might undermine the democratic system under the monarchy by transforming it.

Chaithawat, along with 11 executive members, faces a 10-year political ban, including the party’s chief advisor, Pita Limjaroenrat. Despite his ban, Pita affirmed his commitment to political activism as a private citizen. “We may grieve today, but tomorrow we will channel our anger and energy into every polling booth,” he encouraged supporters who had gathered at the party’s headquarters.

Many Move Forward supporters expressed their disappointment and anger at the court's decision. Pita reassured them, asserting, “We did nothing aimed at overthrowing or being hostile toward the democratic system as ruled by the court.”

At least , they already had a " plan B " .

Good luck to them , but experience has taught by now , that it would be better to abolish the amendment of 112 ... for now .

Just as Pita said , Move foreward is no political party anymore , it is a movement .

The "UNTOUCHABLES"

Complete control, they just don't care what they have to do to eliminate any threat against there mafia like corrupt organisation, change the rules, make up new ones, the MFP legitimately won the election voted for by the people,  unfortunately the Thai people are helpless to change this broken system, another sad day for Thailand

Shameful.  If Thailand's economy /people didn't drastically need industrial foreign direct investment I would advocate that everybody broadcast to the world the following social /political truth:

"Thailand is still a Feudal Patronage Society Masquerading as a Constitutional Monarchy".

the problem is that MFP is current to the times, but Thailand is a century behind. better they drop reform until their elders pass away

With the 11 MFP leaders banned for 10 years from having any connection, direct or indirect, in the forming or involvement in a political party, Pita and his associates have to be careful or the new party will be dissolved again, not that the powers that be need a reason.

Yes, good move.  Start the new political party immediately, with those MFP elected members not banned joining it, instead of one of the othr parties.

Yes... same happened to FFP, MFP and the next one... until the people rise up.

Are these guys so brain dead that they ignore realpolitik and keep needing to touch the third rail that is Article 112? This is akin to running for office in a Muslim country, with a platform that says they'll amend the Koran, if elected.

Expecting different results? Noooo! The people who set this in motion got exactly what they wanted knowing full well the resulting outcome. They have done it numerous times. I can not think of one instance where a party was not dissolved after gaining so much support from the people yet losing the elections.

There always seems to be a reason to dissolve them.

No, I'm afraid I have to disagree they voted for another Government and the PM never got the pro junta Senators' votes and yes they did make it very clear that some things were just going to be discussed as possible amendments.
BTW the current  PM and his Government orchestrated by Thaksin got off scot-free!!
So a new party is to be formed but the names of the individuals are banned for 10 years unless  there is a way around it.
However, in so-called Democracies  like the USA and UK  are simply not democracies and in the main, the vast majority of so-called politicians  are pure filth vermin and scum!!!

The new party should be called the Constitutional Freedom Party (CFP) as neither currently exists in Thailand.

With the bans won’t there have to elections to replace the MPs who have been banned  ?

Thank you unelected Constitutional Court for making it clear that Thailand is a 'Thai autocracy' (rhymes with hypocrisy?) or 'Thai Oligarchy' and not really a People's constitutional monarchy.

Hey, electorate representation and the whole electorate voting process are just bothersome once you go beyond the governance by the military and oligarchs.

Thank you for keeping Thailand governance simple (rhymes with swindle?).

So if voting doesn't work at the ballot box change tactics or rinse/spin/repeat.

FFP got booted, MFP got booted.

So 3rd time lucky?

More likely , Here Today Gone Tomorrow  party

Those that have been instrumental in killing off any threat to their hegemony will just continue to repeat the methods they have used so successfully up until now. They are 100% bound to find some fault with any new incarnation of MFP so don't expect a third time lucky scenario. Only huge and prolonged protests in every province can hope to make a dent in the status quo.

As time goes bye more and more Thais will not ccep these actions. it will take time but it will eventually happen, and more and more generals, judges will fall by the wayside.

In the meantime the messages of move forward  etc will penetrate and impress more and more common folks.  Mass education will win.

Meanwhile back in the UK We may end up with the political party that we vote for BUT,  there is no obligation for that party to follow their pre election manifesto, they can and will,  just do what they want .   Same Same but different?
