The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) anticipates revenue from domestic travel to reach 9.39 billion baht during the Mother's Day holiday this year. The expected income from an estimated 2.6 million trips is slightly below the 9.58 billion baht generated during the two consecutive extended holidays in July.

TAT Governor Thapanee Kiatphaibool attributes the lower forecast for the Mother's Day weekend to several factors. These include high household debts, the living costs that have made people careful about leisure spending, and some travelers who have already spent their travel budgets in the previous month.

Individuals with high purchasing power might choose to travel abroad to celebrate with their mothers rather than staying within Thailand, added Thapanee. She said, "Some tourists, with attractive tour packages from neighboring countries at an affordable rate of only 10,000 baht, have decided to treat their mothers with an international trip."

Countries likely to benefit from these foreign trips include Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore, and China as they provide visa exemptions for Thai travelers.

The long weekend sees a predicted average hotel occupancy rate of 68% nationwide, with the central region and Bangkok expected to record the highest occupancy rates at 73% and 72%, respectively. The central region is also likely to see the maximum visitors with approximately 672,740 trips, followed by the northeast with 485,690 and the eastern region with 463,640 trips.

In terms of revenue generation, Bangkok leads the pack with a forecast of 2.32 billion baht, trailed by the eastern region with 1.98 billion and the south with 1.5 billion baht.

Thapanee also mentioned that the predictions fall in line with the Tourism Council of Thailand’s estimates which predicted about 30% of local travelers staying within their provinces, while only 14% will undertake short trips in other provinces.

The TAT is hosting various events outside Bangkok in a bid to attract more tourists. These events include the Amazing Food Festival 2024 in Prachuap Khiri Khan and the Amazing Beach Life Festival in Songkhla. The purpose of these events is to stimulate tourism in lesser-visited areas, provide unique experiences, and boost the local economies.

Love it when they can estimate the number of trips to the nearest 10, out of over half a million.

What are the next lottery number winners please?

No, it's approximately(!) 672,743, 485,688 and 463,649 :cheesy:

And I am disappointed about the un-precise number for the total income.

9.39 billion, shouldn't it read 9.392.367.472 Baht? (and 50 Satang).

So sad when all they can think about is the money...

Are they really so sure it is 9.39 billion and not 9.4 billion or 9.38? Fools. And just to quote the obvious internal tourism doesn't bring any money into the country.
