In Thailand, a father sustained a gunshot wound on his left leg from a fight involving a gun with his son over a 1 million baht debt at the latter’s pawnshop in Khon Kaen, an Isaan province. The dispute occurred yesterday, August 14, around 4.30 pm on Na Mueang Road when Mueang Khon Kaen police were alerted.

Upon arriving at the scene, the police found the injured man, Chalao, 53, sitting with his wounded leg. A medical team from Khon Kaen Hospital was summoned to the site to take Chalao to the hospital. No updates about his condition were given.

The person behind the shooting was identified as Pawinyo, 32, Chalao’s son who escaped after the incident. Pawinyo's friend, Kim, revealed to the police that Pawinyo had been at odds with his father. Kim further shared he advised Pawinyo to solve the problem peacefully just before Chalao showed up with a gun.

As told by Kim, Chalao aimed his gun at Pawinyo immediately after alighting from his car, causing Pawinyo to react by firing back at his father, hitting him on the leg.

According to the police, the rift between the father and son was because of a 1 million baht loan that Pawinyo’s elder sister took from her brother, and had long delayed in returning it, despite Pawinyo’s constant reminders.

To express his frustration, Pawinyo went public about his sister's debt on social media, which angered Chalao. Chalao found it inappropriate that Pawinyo had exposed the family dispute to the public and asked him to delete the post, but he refused.

It was revealed that Pawinyo later turned himself in and was released temporarily. However, the police have not charged the shooter with any formal legal charges yet.

This is the part that really confuses me. A man, albeit the son, fires on his father with a gun in his father's shop causing injury to his leg. Turns himself in to the police. Yet, rather than arrest the man for attempted murder or even for discharging a weapon in a public place, they release him without charges. The evidence is there with the bullet wound. Why would the police release this man to give him the ability to shoot someone else or to flee? Surely, if he would do this to his own father then it would be even easier to do it to someone else.

Maybe some of the police borrowed money from him too....

Well it's a busy time now for family arguments and attempted or successful killings.   Must be something in the water that brings out their evil.

I 100% doubt Pawinyo will ever be getting his 1 million baht back,     sister is playing the thai game.  borrow but not pay back.

Borrow in Thailand has a different meaning than it does in the rest of the world.

\

Borrow = give without any chance of repayment.

yea, i get that, you get that, but so many locals don;t seem to understand, they lend money and are surprised/upset when it's not repaid. bizarre.
