In the age of social media, disinformation or misinformation with goal of misleading the public for political or monetary gain should become an offence with mandatory prosecution upon a citizen's complaint.

All politics is propaganda and disinformation. The only question is who controls the narrative.

In your case I guess the EU is the new face of global totalitarianism.

If it's blatant, black-and-white disinformation, report it and the folks behind the scene will remove it. Otherwise, everyone is entitled to their own opinion, as wrong as it may be.   I had

  • No. Only the Trump supporters should be reported. The leftists should be allowed to continue lying with the reckless abandon they have grown accustomed to.

I would have given you a laughing emoji as a response, if your comment wasn't actually that sad.

Tell us again that lie that you are right wing

Repeating a lie is okay if you don’t know it’s a lie, correct?

You did not answer the question. The assumption is that teller believes it to be true.

I didn't say that.

I was trying to differentiate between situations, where clear cut lying is wrong in any case, while I left open the case of lying unknowingly.

And there it depends why the lie is told.

Defame someone, for example saying that another person committed murder but there are no established facts and you have no proof, then saying that in public is a crime now already.

In the Russian media for example, it's full of pseudo-science and people there are so gullible. People tell them drinking water that has been microwaved causes cancer...

In the UK someone told British voters that the NHS would save I don't know how many millions every week if the UK left the EU...

This has to stop.

ask me ten philosophical-political questions to determine my political views, I'll answer honestly.

Why I would need to ask you questions, when it's obvious from your post history, and even from the OP?

So whoever holds the conch gets to decide what’s true?

Should Biden be taken to task fo the lies he told in his speech Monday, or given a pass?

it's really simple, a complaint triggers an investigation - could be a really short one, such as the authority in charge giving the author a certain time for providing proof of what he's saying. If a lie with the goal to mislead the public for monetary or political gain is established, then prosecution is mandatory.

Is this the kind of government action you support

Some sort of court. With appeal possibilities.

It's yet to be defined.

The main question is if we want to tolerate lying politicians or lying media.

That's for the individual to decide.

I would like to put this up for discussion :

What is everyone's opinion on disinformation on aseannow.com 's forum ?

I realize that as a free speech medium, some quantity of disinformation is inevitable and even necessary for free speech to happen, but what about posters who repeatedly and intently author a large amount of disinformation posts even after they were proven wrong ?

Is them posting disinformation fine or should they be taken action against ?

"Disinformation" can be in at least two forms:

1) Information that is factually and provably not true.  For example - the Earth is flat.  If you understand physics and modern technology, rocket, missile, and satellite technology, the "roundness" can be proved to an individual beyond a reasonable doubt.  Even by causal observation of the surrounding stars and planets with a home telescope should be enough to prove that a "flat Earth" would be totally contrary to the physical nature of the surrounding cosmos.  Yet?  Some people will disregard observable facts and still hold on to something as being "factual" and then promote the "disinformation" that "The Earth Is Flat."  People with a high degree of gullibility will succumb to disinformation, will believe it, and promote it even when it is factually and provably wrong.

2. Information that is factually true but does not fit the "currently accepted narratives."  Labeling factual information as "disinformation" is a propaganda technique.  The purpose of propaganda is to create doubt in the minds of the those within a given population of people who are not already ideologues, i.e., those individuals who will unquestionably believe and promote all information provided by the leaders, organizations, and institutions they themselves identify with and consider themselves to be a member of).  So propaganda is aimed directly at those who may question the veracity and truthfulness of factual information.  Media, authorities, "experts," corporate marketing, and governments all engage in attempting to sway those with questions regarding the information they are told to blindly accept, as "facts," and to accept without question what they are told to be "facts" or "Official and Trusted Information."  Part of propaganda, such as sloganeering, is meant to cement "Official and Trusted Information" in the minds of the public and to whip-up the sentiments of the ideologues to apply peer pressure to those who question the veracity of any information that is promoted as "Official and Trusted Information."  Then, any other information that lies outside of the "Official and Trusted Information" is labelled as "Misinformation" whether there is evidence that the information is factual or not.  Then anyone who can provide proof that this so-called "Misinformation" is actually factual information are labelled with pejoratives and labels meant to malign, disparage, and discredit these alternative sources of information which can be proved to be factual if the sources of that factual information are allowed to be published.  For example, calling a person who has an alternative opinion a "Flat Earther" regardless of the actual truthfulness, accuracy, and factual basis of that person's opinion.  The purpose of using these slurs is to immediately shut down all dialogue and discussion regarding the credibility and factual basis of the opinion.  No debate is allowed!  "Your opinion is 'Disinformation' and you are a Flat Earther!"  End of discussion.

That's how it works ppls.

 "Your opinion is 'Disinformation' and you are a Flat Earther!"

Exactly my point.

Except most of the 2025 staff were former Trump officials.

Trump has made the ultimate deal with the devil. He will get his indictments dropped in exchange for turning over the government to Stephen Miller and his cronies.

A major offender presents himself. Now do something about it.

But Project 2025 is still not Trump's  plan.   It was a project that belongs to the Heritage Foundation.   Trump has even spoken about he does not like aspects of it.

The outright claim by the left that Project 2025 is Trump's plan, from all that I have read, is outright propaganda playing to the left wing choir.   And they eat it up!

I am going to have to look up who Stephen Miller is.   I don't recall hearing his name before.

Unfortunately disinformation gets clicks and eyeballs. Anything that elicits an emotional response will engage your audience and they will repeat the disinformation thinking it’s fact.
