Today I met the first farang returning home because of exchange rate
Western currency losses are due to Japan raising interest rates. Previously with Japan charging under 3%, the big big boys were borrowing Yen at 0-3% then buying western currencies to short term invest at 5-7%. This devalues the Yen and boosts the price of the western currencies. Then Japan raised their interest rates, so they sell their western investments, sell the western currency and buy Yen. Casing in their profits. Nobody in their right mind borrows money to invest in Thailand. So the Baht is not affected by this seesaw of buying and selling. -

Shingles - Worth the vaccination?
There 2 diff. vaccines. Shingrix is 2 shots & more effective, higher cost. Old one, Zostavax, is 1 shot, less effective. I doubt it is still used. We paid about 1600 THB I think. Look at hospital websites for diff. prices. Try Thai RC. -

Reduce taxation by gifting.
It's several factors, chose the one that excites you most: - not enough potential new tax money to be had, amongst a mostly rural poor. - no political will to pursue poor people for tax - giving subsidies with one hand and taking away tax with the other is mean spirited and unproductive. Chasing the 75% has never been a priority, because other tax channels have taken up the slack, VAT, corporate etc. Now times are financially tighter, all avenues are being examined but the ones that have best payback will be first. -

5 Former Defence Secretaries Urge UK to Allow Ukraine to Use Long Range Missiles
If your goal is a forever war then that is an excellent approach to take. Both Ukraine and Russia are corrupt. The media spreads propaganda suggesting this is good vs evil but I doubt that is even close to being true. What is accurate is there are no winners in war other than the arms manufacturers and those who help themselves to the money being used to fund it. The losers are: 1. Russian people. 2. Ukrainian people. 3. The western taxpayers funding this nonsense. The only reason it continues is that the western taxpayer is funding it. Nobody voted to fund this war in the USA or the UK and I should think taxpayers from these countries could think of many, many better things to spend the money on. Remove the funding and Zelenski and Putin will be forced to negotiate. -

Police/immigration asking Condo jurisdiction for TM 30
Hey Everyone, I've been living in a condo in Bangkok for over 4+ years. First time, the condo jurisdiction asked me to provide the TM 30 form by September 20, 2024. Here's some history if it helps: This Year, I’ve been in Thailand since March 2024, and last month, I was in Pattaya. I haven’t traveled anywhere else since then. I reached out to my landlord, and it appears that they never filed the TM 30 form. I have a few questions: Can the police or immigration authorities come to my condo to check for the TM 30? What are the implications if we don’t have the TM 30? Can I file the TM 30 form myself? Thanks in advance for your help! -

Revisiting History: The Unlikely Campaign to Vilify Winston Churchill
So do a very very large number of people. Every US president or UK PM that went to war , every general, etc etc etc. The history of humans on this planet is one of barabarism and death, from the first humanoid that killed another with a mammoth bone, to the guys that dropped the atomic bombs. Enough blame to go around. I think you made your point, and I can't be bothered to keep going around in circles, so if I remember I'm off this subject. -

Reduce taxation by gifting.
So you assess TRD is effective enough to enforce tax laws on individuals, there is no capacity/means issue collecting tax, but TRD has no real willing to do so because it's not cost-efficient, right? -
