Thai VietJet Declines to Press Charges Against Polish Woman for Bomb Threat, Set to Return Home Tonight

Thai VietJet has announced during the evening of September 26, that it will not pursue legal action against a 34-year-old Polish woman who made a bomb threat while on board a flight from Da Nang, Vietnam, to Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok. The woman is scheduled to leave Thailand and return to Poland over night on September 26.

The incident occurred earlier on Thai VietJet flight VZ961. The Polish passenger threatened that there was a bomb on the aircraft, prompting immediate safety measures. Authorities were dispatched to conduct thorough checks, including body searches of passengers, luggage inspections, and a complete sweep of the aircraft. No suspicious items or explosives were found, and the woman was detained for police questioning.

Following the investigation, it was determined that the woman had not intended to carry out an act of terrorism or actually plant a bomb. Her statement was deemed a violation of aviation security regulations but without malicious intent. Thai VietJet has decided not to press charges, and the passenger is set to depart Thailand to return to Poland.

God knows what really happened.

Several words and expressions in Polish sound or translate like bomb, but really mean different things (a hammer, a Christmas decoration,  a scandal)

If the act causes danger to the safety of the aircraft while in flight, the offender shall be subject to imprisonment for 5 to 15 years or a fine ranging from 200,000 baht (two hundred thousand baht) to 600,000 baht (six hundred thousand baht), or both.

This woman really know how to party! Or maybe she didn´t like the schedule, to go home. She just wanted to stay a little bit longer. 😉

Mr. Kittiphong Kittikhachorn, Director of Suvarnabhumi Airport, Airports of Thailand Public Company Limited (AOT), stated that on September 26, at 14:18, the Suvarnabhumi Airport Security Centre received a notification from Air Traffic Control that there was a bomb threat on Thai VietJet Air flight VZ961 from Da Nang, Vietnam.

The flight had 121 passengers, including one infant, along with six pilots and crew members. Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) assessed the situation with the airline and activated the airport’s emergency response plan, Chapter 3, regarding bomb threats. They coordinated with relevant public and private sectors, security personnel, firefighting and rescue teams, as well as the airport’s medical team to immediately handle the situation.

Initially, the aircraft was moved to the Isolated Aircraft Parking Position on the east side of the airport. Passengers and crew were immediately evacuated from the aircraft. The passengers were taken to the airport’s eastern firefighting and rescue station. Security officers then conducted body and baggage searches, while the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team inspected all luggage and thoroughly checked the aircraft. No suspicious explosive items were found. Therefore, the emergency response plan was canceled at 16:31.

Thai VietJet Air then transferred all passengers and crew through the regular inbound passenger process. The incident did not affect airport operations in any way.

She is one very lucky lady... I sincerely hope she is blacklisted and now on a no-fly data-base.

I don't know what the circumstances were, but most probably common sense and compassion prevailed. I know many expats here will now scream and complain vociferously to the heavens that I referred to compassion. Still, compassion and unconditional love are perhaps the core values and qualities that are missing most in people, companies, and the world. What a difference they can make!

I don't quite get this. The airline can certainly choose not to sue her for the costs they incurred, but shouldn't the decision about whether to charge her with a crime be up to Thai prosecutors?

I am guessing, but I expect that Thailand does not have jurisdiction over what happens on a Vietnamese plane.

We don't know what happened. Maybe she was drunk or was having an emotional argument with her spouse and said it by mistake or to annoy him, and what she said was overheard by a flight attendant.

all she wanted was a fancy cocktail drink before arriving at Bangkok.   The air hostess got it all messed up.

If they aren't pressing charges, something was definitely messed up

Given the gravity of the threat airline should have put her in gaol (suitable length of time to really scare her), fine a lot of money, then deport.

The Polish woman is very lucky  that the Airline did not press charges!

But the incident happened in Thai airspace and why didn't the authorities press charges, anywhere else like the USA or UK this would have been dealt with very severely!

At minimum she should be blacklisted from ever flying into Thailand again.

Not here apparently if you don't bring charges the cops don't prosecute. many instances in the news, like people getting injured in a fight, for example if you don't report it then that's it. even if the cops were called and witnessed it. TIT
