Thailand’s Bold Move: Decriminalising Sex Work Sparks National Debate

The Police in Bangkok,  Phuket,  and Pattaya will be very unhappy about this. Many will be thinking, "But, but, how will I fund my wives' shopping trips abroad if I can't extort money from the bars? What about the payments for the family's 3 Mercedes Benzes? How will I pay them? Oh, poor me!"

I do hope that you are not suggesting our bold gendarmerie are somehow involved in extorting money from the sex industry - I mean surely, that would be against the law wouldn't it?

Unfortunately even if it is decriminalized it will be a job probably reserved for Thais.

So sadly none of us on this forum will be able to get a job making love to sex tourists.

You don't get out much do you. Russian sex workers have been in Pattaya for a very long time time as have African sex workers in Bangkok.

As the absolute vast majority of the sex industry is to supply the demand from Thai's it seems to be a no brainer.

There are no sex tourists where I live but there are many establishments catering for the local population.

Those pretending that it doesn't exist are living in denial and in a different world from reality.

Let´s just say like this. If they can check Walking Street in Pattaya, and confirm no prostitution, do you think that will be confirmed anywhere else?

And once again you understand the post, but you have to turn it and sort out something less important to pick on.

So no link of any Thai official claiming that there is no prostitution in Thailand as you stated.
I didn’t think so.

I have seen those and sampled them.

However I didn’t know any of those women were posting on this forum.
The Russians get away with it by obtaining an entertainers work permit.

No sure about the Africans that could also be found in Pattaya, halfway down walking street near where the ladyboys usually give you a free fondle.

No matter what happens, the sex industry will continue.  Legal, decriminalised or illegal.  For me, I'd have thought the Government might like the extra tax revenue.

It is a great way to raise funds and ensure that the ladies are bug-free and stay healthy.  The people who will be upset are the cops in the areas that will lose money Would also make it mandatory that all streetwalkers be registered for" tax" purposes also.  Or they can do like some places and crack down on the street prostitution and drive it into businesses and buildings.

I might not be able to sell myself but hey I can open a ฟาร์มไก่ farm Ki

Hum..This "entertainment complex" already exists by the way (it's called Nana Plaza...). Overall, i think this won't change anything in a significant way. Although prostitution is illegal, it is clearly "permitted" and seldom prosecuted. Covid was an unusual time where financial compensations were equally seldom and not just for those working in this business but for most who were promised the (laughable) 5000 thb compensation. And, not sure most of the women who choose to work there are willing to pay taxes, file the PND 1 forms etc...Plus. For those who go with customers and who get paid by cash, how wil you control any of their earnings? i don't know. To me this is Tweedldum and Tweedledee.

LOL.

Legalization=Their under-the-table income is gone.

(Partial) End of the Police Story from the dark side.

Better Money than Reduced Workload, from their perspective.

Here we go again...  They checked Walking Street and confirmed no prostitution was taking place because it wasn't.   Gogo bars and beer bars are not 'prostitution' unless they provide rooms for it to take place in.  Presumably any such rooms were closed! Barfining someone and taking them home or to a hotel is not illegal.

Now, if they'd said the same thing about 'no prostitution ' in soi 6, you would have a point!

First, my response was made as a joke with emoji after, so even you would have a chance to understand.

After that, you chose to take it out without the emoji and make another meaning of it and nit pick as it would have been posted as a serious reply. That makes you a big childish person who distort the meaning just to make a none existent argument with another poster. Below we have the full reply with correct meaning as well as the post I quoted.

Legalization of prostitution in this kingdom.

Means this country One Step Closer to the 1st World Standard.

Only If It Comes True.

What 1st World are you talking about? The US where banning prostitution is state of the union mission statement number one? Scandinavia and the EU where the "Nordic model" (ie the most repressive regime ever) is being adopted by one country after another? You are right if only insofar as legalization means "rendering it inaccessible".

Accessible and affordable prostitution is now a feature of 3rd World or emerging countries, not of 1st World countries.

What is your personal objection to prostitution?

What?  LOL.

1. I'm a smart ass (with emphasis on the ass part)

2. It's a reference to a Van Halen song from the '81 album For Unlawful Carnal knowledge.

For the record

A woman's body is her own fkin business, nobody has the right to dictate terms for them. If they want to bump fuzzies for money more power to them.

Just stay ahead of the game, ladies.

Oh dear! You too. I actually expected better from you than MalcolmB. Look again at the original post, and understand it was made as a joke. Hopefully, you can see the emojis, that MalcolmB made a choice to not include in his reply. Therefore the post that you replied to as a try to also make him understand, but then you fell into it as well. I am disappointed.

Hope this answers you question.

Really? Who claimed that? Do you have a link of that it doesn’t exist in Thailand?

I have heard that they have denied that certain areas have been declared brothel (on premises) free.

But never heard any Thai claim that prostitution doesn’t exist in Thailand.

Don't get too serious about the ongoing joke of no prostitute in any area that is looked at by the authorities.

Lists are all very well but they don't mean much. France is on the list with its Nordic model. You can google "nordic model" if you don't know what it entails.

What is the US doing on the list? Yes I know, prostitution is legal in Nevada and Puerto Rico. Big deal.

Thailand being on the list in spite of prostitution being officially illegal in Thailand shows what an inconsistent hodgepodge such "lists" are.

This is somewhat reminiscent of the lists of "10 best countries to retire in", with 8 of of 10 countries being ones where they tax your world-wide income at an extortionate rate.

Only some aspects of prostitution are illegal in Thailand, just like in the UK.  The act of paying for sexual services is not in itself illegal.  Prostitution is regulated under various Acts of Parliament.

Indeed this "only some aspects" is what enables some countries to proudly claim "prostitution is legal" while in fact it isn't. In Belgium and Portugal prostitution has officially been legal for decades but local authorities are free to withhold permits for prostitution venues as well as for privately operating escorts, and local authorities do so more often than not. In France or Sweden women are free to prostitute but men are not allowed to pay for a prostitute: what kind of fool does one need to be to consider this as meaning prostitution is legal? And so on and so forth.

Meanwhile in some countries like Uganda, Madagascar, Kenya ... prostitution has always been illegal but it is all over the place.

P.S. My initial point was that "1st World" countries should not (or no longer) be hailed as libertarian countries in matters of prostitution (nor of hetero sex for that matter).

Both.

And someone like you who spends most waking hours on this forum knows it.

I won't feed the troll more.
