From NC Department of Public Safety:

Hurricane Helene: Fact vs. Rumor

RUMOR: The state and federal government are doing nothing to respond to the ongoing disaster in Western North Carolina.

FACT: Roadways in Western North Carolina are still dangerous and impassible in many places. A recent landslide shows the potential for more serious incidents. In some areas, traffic is being rerouted to maintain availability of roadways for emergency response, coordinated disaster relief efforts and local traffic.

FACT: The NC State Emergency Response Team, which includes local, state, federal and military partners, along with power and cell phone agencies, private businesses and volunteer organizations, is working around the clock to save lives and provide humanitarian relief to Western North Carolina residents. This is a coordinated effort aimed at saving lives and to speed recovery for residents, businesses and municipalities in the impacted areas.

BTW Eddie M. Buffaloe, Jr. is the Secretary of the Department of Public Safety and serves as the sole representative on the governor's cabinet for the state's law enforcement, juvenile justice initiatives and emergency management responsibilities.

Anybody got problems with the relief efforts to date, contact Eddie as above.

If you want to tax more fairly, get rid of all the deduction/allowances, along with subsidies, all markets, all industries, and simply have  flat tax.

Flat tax of 15-20-25%.  That would be fair.  Because someone has the desire to make more, they shouldn't be penalized with higher taxes.  That's just stupid.

Half pays less that <15% tax, many, no income tax at all or an average of 3.3%.  And I've been hit with 37% income tax, and that's just 'federal'.

That's not a fair tax code... that's BS

I can support pealing back deductions after study to see if they are, if fact benefitting a country desired goal. I cannot support a flat tax without a bottom cur off. Someone earning $10,000 should not be taxed. I do not propose any amount as that would need some study and thought … Federal poverty level? You are also supporting higher taxes for higher earners, are you not? In general, I think the income/wealth gap has risen to unsustainable levels and is the underlying cause of most of the shredding of the social fabric today.

No, would defeat the whole purpose of flat income tax.  Minimum wage $25.00, so enough for all to live on.   No non working welfare program.  No more free ride.  You have kids, then you work and your kids will be in day care,

Oil and Electric companies, nationalized, no more windfall profits for providing necessities.  That's BS.   Socialism and democratic Republic, can coexist.

Yea, I'm dreaming ... that's why I left the <deleted>hole.

Now .. Living the Dream :cheesy:

Maybe they should get their talking points straight:

The Federal Emergency Management Agency can meet immediate needs but does not have enough funding to make it through the hurricane season, Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas told reporters Wednesday.

You know that FEMA has sufficient funding to help victims of the hurricanes. Mike Johnson sees no need to appropriate more FEMA funding.

Helping to spread conspiracy theories in a crisis is pretty low.

This was a lie.

You should be ashamed of yourself - deterring victims of the hurricane from seeking aid by spreading conspiracy theories.

Gee thats what Harris said. How convincing.

She lied about DeSantis too didnt she?

Ah yes, the MSM spin :cheesy:

Biden & Harris didn't even visit N. Caroline till Wednesday, and it's till Thursday in USA.

Trump was there on Monday :coffee1:  Contacted Musk for additional support with StarLink.

"“Since the Hurricane Helene disaster, SpaceX has sent as many Starlink terminals as possible to help areas in need,” Musk wrote in a post on the social platform X. “Earlier today, @realDonaldTrump alerted me to additional people who need Starlink Internet in North Carolina. We are sending them terminals right away.”

FEMA was setting up Starlink terminals before you made your post.

Illegal migration  in America gone viral thanks to the harris / biden administration.

Never let a crisis go to waste!

Especially if you embolden it and create historical numbers in a 3-1/2 year period!

Start a topic.

So, Kamala Harris is VP with no operational responsibilities, and you blame her for Helene deaths.

But Trump *was* President, with operational responsibilities and he failed during Hurricane Maria when 1000s died.

Well she makes enough phone calls to Governors doesnt she? Visited the ravaged areas. Hey Joe, can we speed up this or that or do this or that?

Naw. Drink beer with Colbert. Hang out with a filthy exploitive racist misogynistic comic. Work on her accents.

NCDOT crews continue recovery efforts after massive flooding
By 828newsNOW October 13, 2024 2:05 pm

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Getting from here to there is no easy feat in Western North Carolina.

Interstate 40 and I-26 remain closed at the Tennessee/North Carolina border.

According to the North Carolina Department of Transportation, more than 2,000 NCDOT employees and contract crews from across the state are working in WNC to reopen roads, clear debris and repair damaged infrastructure. They are getting help from the skies from the department’s photogrammetry unit and North Carolina Division of Aviation drones.

NCDOT staff have identified more than 5,400 damaged sites with over 450 damaged bridges, a statement from the NCDOT said. Crews have already reopened more than 460 roads and will update DriveNC.gov with the latest closure and detour information.

This is the result of Trump's lies about FEMA:

FEMA contractors ordered to “stand down” after security threats, messages show

An inspection agency that works as a contractor for the Federal Emergency Management Agency has ordered its employees in western North Carolina to cease inspections over the weekend and return to hotels, WBTV has confirmed.

Sunday evening, the Washington Post first reported messages about reports of threats to FEMA-affiliated workers in Rutherford County. WBTV has independently confirmed that reporting with sources with direct knowledge of the threats.

The news comes after FEMA workers across Hurricane Helene’s disaster zone in western North Carolina have been targeted with misinformation and rumors about the federal government’s recovery operations in the area.
