Warning issued for 16 areas in Bangkok at risk of flooding
Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) issued a warning to people living in 16 areas across seven districts of Bangkok that are at risk of flooding, advising them to move their valuables and belongings to higher ground. Although the flooding in Thailand this year is not as severe as the great floods of 2011 but the floodwater levels in many provinces are the highest in the past 10 years. The flooding began in the northern and northeastern parts of Thailand, and the serious flooding in Chiang Mai has only recently improved. Locals and relevant local government officials are now cleaning the affected areas, particularly the city centre and the economic zone of the province. The damage caused by the flood in Chiang Mai is estimated to reach 2 billion baht. The floodwaters are expected to gradually flow from the northern to the central regions of Thailand through several rivers, especially the Chao Phraya River. Several Thai news agencies reported yesterday, October 8, that some riverside communities in Nonthaburi province, near Bangkok, were already affected, causing concern among Bangkok residents. The BMA is closely monitoring the flood situation and the water level in the Chao Phraya River to alert people in at-risk areas to prepare for potential flooding. Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt and Deputy Governor Wissanu Subsomphon attended a survey yesterday to inspect the water level in the Chao Phraya River. According to the governor, Bangkok has 88 kilometres of flood protection walls, ranging from 2.8 to 3.5 metres in height, along the river and in some main canals connected to the river. Chadchart assured the safety of communities within the protected areas but urged those outside to remain cautious. The 16 areas in seven districts of Bangkok, which lie outside the flood protection walls include: Dusit district Soi Sri Kham (the end of Soi Samsen 19) Ratchaphathim Ruamjai community near Krung Thonburi Bridge The end of Soi Mittakham Devaraj Kunchon comunity Phranakhon district Tha Wang community Tha Tian community Samphantawong district Communities near Pathum Kongka Temple Talad Noi community Bang Khor Laem district Matanusorn community Communities behind Charoenkrung Pracharak Hospital Communities near Inbanjong Temple Communities near Bang Khlo Temple Yannawa district Rong Si community on Rama 3 Road Bangkok Noi district Dusit and Nimit Mai communities Khlong San district Charoen Nakhon Soi 29/2 Ban Chan Nak community Chadchart revealed in an interview with the news agencies that they are being vigilant. “We are monitoring and preparing at all times, and the monitoring will become more intense on October 20 when the sea level is expected to rise. For areas outside the flood protection walls, BMA officials are ready to assist affected residents.” by Petch Petpailin Photo via Facebook/ กรุงเทพมหานคร Source: The Thaiger -- 2024-10-09 -

Deadly Bus Fire Tragedy Highlights Safety Failures on Thai Roads
Roads being inanimate cause no failures ,. the FAILURES are in Enforcement by Inspectors, RTP, and other agencies concerned with Passenger Transportation. The failure of systematically checking on Transport Companies so they abide by the rules, and would lose licences to operate if even ONE mode of transport found to be illegal in any way. Finally driver training it is apparent that many drivers are poorly trained in basic road safety and ways to deal with accidents including blown tyres. But then GOOD MAINTAINANCE would ensure GOOD TYR ES are on ALL COMPANY VEHICLES. ROADS DO NOT FAIL, PEOPLE FAIL PEOPLE through INCOMPETENCE, CORRUPTION , GREED AND COMPLETE L;ASCK OF EMPATHY FOR THE TRAVELLING PUBLIC WHO PAY money to go from A to B safely. -

Air con experts
Good morning experts. I have two 12 year old Mitsu 12000 Mr Slim, on/off air cons in my 36 sq mtr lounge, 3 metres apart on the outside wall. Last month I bought a TLC Inverter 12000 from Lazada as it was a very good price, Bht 7500, including delivery. My local man came on Sunday and charged me Bht 3000 to remove one of the old ones and fit the TLC. I decided to compare the efficiency/power usage between the two. I have a ‘smart’ thingy in my fuse box (CU) which sends the electricity consumption to my phone. I turned everything off on the breakers and tested each air con individually setting each at 28C, normal cooling for 20 minutes and recorded the number of units used. Then I did it with the Economy button pressed. Here are my results. TCL. Normal = 0.50 units, Eco = 0.35, which equates to 1.5 and 1.0 per hour. Mitsu. Normal = 0.34 units, Eco = 0.28 per hour, 1.0 and 0.72 per hour. So the old one seems to use less electricity than the new TLC over the period of one hour. WHY? Also, I wonder exactly how the units work. I know from testing myself that they both pump out cool air at 17-18C. They drawn in air from the room into the top, through the exchanger and back out into the room, until the temperature sensor measures that the air going in is at the temperature you have set on the remote. Then it turns off, or slows down, until that rises, then it turns back on. If you want the room to be cooler, it simply takes longer for the cool air to mix with the room’s air until the desired temperature is reached. The outside temperature is irrelevant, only that the room can get hotter if insulation, windows, curtains etc are not considered and allow the room to heat up. Can someone explain IN SIMPLE TERMS, no scientific formulae please? Thank you. I am considering another TLC as they are on offer on Lazada tonight, 10/10. But if the difference in the cost of running the old one is the same or less than the TLC, which will cost me about Bht 11k including fitting, what will be my return on cost per year? OK, a warranty on the TLC, one year on the TLC card, 5 years on Lazada???? -
