Perhaps you recall the saying, "What the fck's it got to do with anyone else", it is their money and their business.

You seem to have a bad case of SOL. Get back on your meds, please.

If Fred is 60 he could get all his super as a lump sum tax free.

True. It still begs the question of why they would spend the money on property in Thailand, where they do not have either secure ownership or residence, rather than Sydney, where they do.

Oh dear, over the many years I've seen these lovely couples and their families emigrate to Thailand only for the man to find and befriend a young Thai beauty.

Fred's looking pretty good for a 60yo.

A few cosmetic changes, hair colouring, possibly surgery, face lift etc.

A vain guy could be looking for a younger filly.

"Fred's looking pretty good for a 60yo." Sure does, nice to see a guy without a hairy face these days.

But she can own a home legally in Thailand - it's just the land she can't  🤣

And a house is worthless without the land it is built on ..but that's the way it is..they seem to have made the right decision $1.2 mil would get you a small apartment in Sydney, if that..what's better is the whole lifestyle change they've encompassed

They could have bought a house in Sydney , rented that house out , move to Thailand and rented a place in Thailand and they would still have a property in Australia in the future .

They could quite easily lose their house in Thailand

There's something not quite right here. All happiness and smiles and heartlifting story for a quality lifestyle in Phuket?

:cheesy::cheesy: probably more crowded than Manly Sidney.

Not all the facts are known about this story. Anyway I wish them luck. In their circumstances I wouldn't move to Thailand without a few millions of income generating assets.

No idea  Qz will not give you a pension while overseas  you have to go back to OZ and then run through hoops  there is hardly any work in Thailand for expats  you need to research

Self-funded retirees can do what ever they like.

That's the beauty of not having to rely on the gov't for a pension.

She complains about escalating property prices in Oz but doesn't realize it's foreign migrants like her who are pushing up real estate prices in Thailand? Wait till her husband gets distracted by all the 'pristine beauty' Phuket has to offer -- and no, I don't mean the beaches.

What's good for the goose.....

27 million baht for a 4-bedroom house is way over the odds for a house in Thailand. Plenty of good houses for 5-10 million baht.

The husband is 7 years away from qualifying for the OAP, and will have to spend two years in Oz to get it.

That may not be a concern if they are self-funded.

I totally agree with you. I was shocked to read that someone would pay 27million baht. and to live in phuket of all places with the most unfriendly thais in the country. I think they have no idea to be honest. What if the land owner dies. Who owns the house then?

True but he can draw down on his super, but bit odd that its that high Most 60 yr olds don't have too much super as in came in part way through their life, unless wealthy, if so, then why ? the average for a 60yr old is about $350- 400K form memory  ? I am assuming they paid $1.2Mil AUD cash for the house in Phuket (sans land) , so none of this story makes much sense. Hope it works out though. Love to hear a follow up in a few years

In a few years you will read that he has divorced the oz lady and found a slim thai lady half her age. It happens.

Manly is way overrated, they were paying more than 67k per year for rent there. Going to work to the city from there is pain, crowded ferries and slow busses. My kid rents a terrace in Newtown for nearly half the money and walks 10-15 minutes to work.

5583 dollars a month? What were you renting? 23 yrs ago I rented a 1 br in Ashburner street close to the beach and it cost me 350 a week I think .

I read a statistic somewhere that said Western couples coming to Thailand to live divorce 50% of the time. If true, that's a very high level.

its not surprising. The guy in the article is likely to start seeing what a beautiful race the girls are, in general. Probably be tempted to fool around based on the photo I saw of his wife...
