All very solid reasoning.  However, I offer that while China could lay waste to the infrastructure of Taiwan it would result in a severing of all financial ties and trade with the free world. South Korea and Japan would  be at risk. The Philippines would panic. India would not support China.. China would see its own economy damaged and  would likely face serious economic boycotts from 60% of its markets.
