No way should this method of the rich paying to get out of criminal charges continue.....it is a total abomination.

I'm rich, I can do (almost) what the hell I like and then throw money at any problems that arise.....if you were trying encapsulate what is wrong with Thailand...it is this.

Just like some other little rich kid... I think everyone knows who I mean.

If 200k each is all the Porsche driver can afford I suggest he sells his Porsche to pay them more !

How has the Porsche got so much damage to the front yet the bonnet looks intact 🤔

That's not how murder works, attempted or not. GBH I reckon. The Porsche driver needs to do time, 3 - 5 years and pay a lot more than 200k.

Which is why he can only afford 200K to each of the victims. A pittance.
Add another few zeros and 5 years in the slammer.

Sorry Mr Suding, but it is still not attempted murder.

The fact that the driver, in his inebriated state, did not see the victim when he was reversing, does not show intent.

Very sad for the two innocent victims.

Definitely needs more than 200 grand.

True… however he may be indicted on:

-drunk driving leading to a motor accident

-wreckless driving/running a red light

-leaving the scene of a crime

and probably other crimes. Kid should do serious time in addition to paying big $$. Sadly that may not happen here in the land of wai’s and brown envelopes.

Despite the serious injuries sustained, the driver’s lawyer recently proposed a settlement of B200,000 for each victim, insisting this was all the driver could afford.

Then I'd suggest going for the prison option.

200,000 baht for each victim? What's a new Porsche cost????

If he was drunk (the Porsche driver) then his insurance would NOT cover him or his vehicle's damage. It should STILL cover the medical costs and damages to the victims.

It's VERY possible that all he had was the compulsory gov't insurance which barely covers anything. I know a lot of people (Thais) that have expensive cars/motorcycles and that is all they have for insurance and then only because they have to pay for it when they do their annual inspection to get their new road tax decal.

I can only get standard "Class 3" insurance for my bike because of it's age (weird Thai rules - the older your vehicle, the less insurance you can get because here, vehicles don't get more valuable when they become "vintage").
The sad part is, if I get into an accident, even if it's clearly the other person's fault, my insurance would likely have to pay THEIR medical and damage costs but I would still have to pay for my own repairs.

Drives me up the wall when I go on trips and see friends drinking like fish (starting literally at 9 in the morning) and then drive off - with their whole family in the vehicle - knowing they have literally no insurance if they get into an accident.

Plus the fact the insureance we pay for is to mop up the mess otherwise it's pointless having it in the first place ..The Porshe no doubt will be fully insured plus the government insureance will have large figures on the polices in case of accident ....The Insurears are the ones the injured parties should be dealing with .

Ok.the driver may have been over the limit but that's a different case if the police want to push it ...what ever it is still an accident and it's the insureance company's job to sort out the compensation etc etc

You aren't covered by insurance if drunk, you're on your own.

I'd say 1 milljon each and a new motorbike!

And a few years in jail for sure.

"We don’t want money—we want justice.... yes sure:post-4641-1156694572:

Problem one regardless the police has no business settling cases in the first place big reason why the system is broken. Investigate write the report pass it on to the judicial system for the proper charges  drunk driving this has to be separate from any civil compensation.

See people with money do this here cause they know majority of Thais do not have money to spend to contest and there isnt ProBono lawyers or groups nor does prosecutors willing to take the time too afraid doing so they would step on someones toes that ruins their career.

This guy doesnt have the backbone to serve a minute and sadly he wont Right now he should be in jail teady to be arraign on charges compensation is a separate issue.

The report says Ms Aom was critically injured, which suggests that sadly she may not have survived. Has her family accepted the 200.000Bt. ? I hope they will also fight for more. And how much is the damaged Porsche worth? Sell it and add it to the compensation already offered.

in a banana republic type country life is a very cheap commodity... 200 K it's less than 7K USD, driver must be well connected

How utterly insane that "offer" is.
Insulting!
How despicable the lawyer is to make such a dehumanizing offer! The lawyer and his firm should be named in the article. It would be a public service for people to know what law firm to avoid hiring at all costs. This piss-poor journalism is not the fault of ASEANNOW, of course. They are just passing the news on for us. I just wish there could be some real journalism practiced somewhere on this planet!
That driver should get 2 - 5 years in prison. Forfeiture of the vehicle, with any value from it going to the victims. And monetary damages should be at least 1 - 5 million, for each victim, along with any medical costs (that insurance doesn't cover), associated with the accident, paid by him for the rest of the victim's lives.
He's too poor? That's just too bad. Wages should be garnished for the rest of his life. And if he plays games to get around wage/asset garnishment, send him to prison for a few more years.

The police in this country are a joke the driver should be arrested and sentenced to at least 5 years prison, the compensation should be 10 million baht which might help with medical bills but the driver should also pay them.

This accident brings back memories of the Russian women that ran down and killed two kids one from America and the other from Liechtenstein and apart from the police being payed off millions of baht nothing was done about the women she said she fell asleep,,, BS look at how the car went straight at these kids that was premeditated murder full stop.

The spoiled drunk driver should spend at least a few years in jail, on top of paying the injured people.  But we all know all the family has to do is pay off the cops and it will all go away for their spoiled little son.  The cops will do everything they can to make sure nothing happens to the spoiled boy, because they love money.  Some cops here are so rich, they can buy 50 luxury vehicles.

Any relation to Red Bull King here ?

Take it to court….bypass the police…let the court decide the settlement …

Why can’t the DA determine the charges…someone train d in the law vs say the police trained only in accounts receivable

฿200,000 what an outrageously inadequate sum. Usually dangerous driving causing gbh is punishable by jail.  Seizing the Porsche may be inadequate since the drunk Thai <deleted>’s car will be owned by his parents.

It's about time more average Thais start realizing that the money offers from rich Thais to "get off" on offenses are a mere pittance. Need to start holding out for more or let the rich suffer the legal consequences.

Reversed back over him! I have heard of this before but thought surely not - critically injured cost much more than funerals.

The problem I have with these "payments " is the rich usually make money on the international market,  but and payments are in baht, making it look like a large payment... but converting it to the international market 200k baht is only US$6000, not much really, for ruining someone's life.

The lawyer suggested that if the family did not accept the offer, they would fight the case in court and were prepared for the driver to face prison time.

IF I were the family I'd for sure take the prison time.  Is there a gofundme to help the family so they don't need this horrible payoff?
