Pattaya - Tourists at Pattaya Beach are worried about trash scattered along the entire stretch of the beach, raising questions about its source.

Local media reported on October 23rd that many tourists at Pattaya Beach were seeing numerous pieces of trash floating in the sea and littered across the beach. The garbage includes cigarette butts, plastic bags, water bottles, foam containers, and styrofoam boxes.

 

This debris has accumulated along the entire stretch of Pattaya Beach, with no one knowing where it came from. In some areas, there are significant piles of cigarette butts lining the shore.

 

Local residents are urging the city to investigate the matter, as Pattaya Beach is one of the main attractions in Pattaya City.

I think the ones who mentions Pattaya, beaches and world class image together really needs to get out more. Could benefit of travelling abroad for a vacation once or twice a year. Would be a fantastic eye opener. There is is absolutely nothing regarding Pattaya beaches that lives up to a world class image. Below we have world class.

I can’t think of a beach better than that that I have been to.

Stormy weather brings the flotsam, same "rubbish" tale each year all over the world. Non Pattaya folk and point scorers jump with glee. Suprise me, resist the next time it rains!

No, I have not been in any such place as you are describing. However, it had nothing to do with the quality of the beach. If nude and topless women are walking around, they would be considered beautiful by males almost anywhere.

I object to using the words "world-class" when used in conjunction with Pattaya. What makes Pattaya a "world-class" city, and can you name another "world-class" city?

The beach is not world class and never has been.  It's dirty, the water is disgusting and uninviting. 

The source of the rubbish coming into shore I am guessing storm water outlets and insufficient sewer treatment plants.

 

Farang bashing as the cause is also short-sighted.  Sure, tourists and expats (farangs) are a contributing cause to the cigarette butts (dirty filthy selfish habit) dropped in the sand, but Thais also flock to the beach and drop rubbish there and from what I have seen, dump a hell of a lot more rubbish than farangs.  Most farangs come from countries where we have mostly been taught to clean up after ourselves and not spoil the environment. Of course there are always a$$h***s that don't care.   Dropping butts on the street and paths as well means they all end up washed into the sea.  I curse people who do it.

Take a look at the photo's of Bang Saen beach....  it used to be notorious for the hoards of plastic litter that drifts there from all the beach restaurants & fishing boats....

Noticed that a Phuket beach is #23. However, their emphasis is on isolated beaches untouched by general tourists. At least it has given me a few ideas for a holiday abroad!

'Pattaya's world class image' is a falisy only in the minds of city hall officials and property developers.
