This is a pretty common practice in the US where the winner of a basketball game stays on the court.  The next team waiting then takes the court to challenge the winner.  Whoever wins that game stays on the court and then takes on the next team waiting.  

 

Perhaps there was a lot of trash talking going on between the two sides and maybe even after the match ended which led to the physical confrontation.
