Seems to be pretty normal in Thailand. When I go to a 7/11 and reply that I'm not a member or to a Café Amazon and tell them that I don't have a Blue Card, they often use someone else's membership information as well. I'm surprised that their supervisors/employers tolerate this.

I did have a card once upon a time when living down Satahip way. Lost along the way but the local here didn’t require it when shopping on line or when I (rarely) went in. Been to a couple of others in other towns as well. It seems to obviously not be a hard and fast rule. I seem to recall similar at a Sams club and one Costco (?) and a few other outlets that have discount card setups, though some of those were an individual cashier using their private card to help out customers.

it might just be the name of the manager of the checkout girl herself, either way its only to log that the sale was to a non member

Never received any benefits with a card and frankly, the deals are not that much better over a normal supermarket IMO.

When I broke my card previously, they made us get a new one at the desk before we could do our shopping.

I wish they had done for us what they did for the OP.

Even in 7-11 etc. I give back to them those silly stamps, I don't want them and if they are of use to a member of staff, good luck.

No benefits at all at Makro for having a card. As far as I can see the only difference is the receipt that they give you, as another member has already mentioned.

I avoid all those supermarket loyalty schemes, the mrs used to collect points from big C and use them for" free gifts" normally useless rubbish that went straight in the bin Same at 7/11 I just leave the stamps on the counter

My wife doesnt miss a trick, members cards for every where, we got discount yesterday in Starbuks 10%, uses some points in Amazon, gets free popcorn and a coke and discount to watch a movie,

She gets gasoline at PTT station and gets all these different point, sometimes we get a discount at Sizzelers

At the checkout when I say not a member, after being asked, the chick scans one of the cards taped to the bench. She or one of the other associates gets the bonus points. Which is it? Smart, cheeky, dishonest, illegal, or other?

Silly post, not a big deal. If you can't be bothered to get a membership then let someone else have the points.

The things people worry about.

Makro has bonus points? Not as far as I know. They used to require you to sign up before shopping but they gave that up years ago. My card has remained in my wallet for a long time as it's easier to say “no card“ than dig it out. No benefit to me, so why waste the time. The main use for the card, other than for the businesses needing the tax docs, is to track what you buy.

The point of the op is that rather than having a company barcode to allow servicing non-member, it seems the cashier used own/friends cards.

This is a misinterpreting. They don't scan a customer card from employees or friends, they scan a barcode that is attached to every cash register to document non-member status by printing out a simple receipt

Fair point. If one is not a member or doesn’t wish to be a member and they can’t ring it up one would think they should refuse the sale in adherence to their policies. But instead the checkout chicks bend the rules in their own personal favor. The question is whether the company encourages this behavior. Come to think of it, it makes sense-win-win for them.

how do you figure its in there favor, have to spend a hell of a lot to get anything, in eight years I got nothing, threw the card in the garbage and let them scan the store code. Don't think they get anything from the scan they do.

I don't know why the OP is getting his knickers in a twist, does it cost him anything?

I would applaud the checkout chicks for being enterprising, and smoothing the way for non-members.

How do you become a 7/11 member?

What, if anything, do you get out of it?

How, I don't know.  Why?  Discount, my GF gets it.  Not much and not worth any effort but she seems to like it.

In the old days they gave you a temporary card which you handed over at check out..I used to have several Makro cards. I accumulated a lot of points. When I requested cashing in they said I couldn't as I didn't have a company. The whole thing was a total scam.

Helpful?  Aren't you supposed to be a member to shop there?

You don't need to be if you don't care about any of the tax stuff. I was spending 10000b + per week for my job.

How do you know that they "bend the rules in their own personal favour"?    Why accuse them of dishonesty by assuming that it is not company policy?   Perhaps they are doing exactly as they are instructed.   Either way, whatever they do has no effect on you, at all. so why try to make a big deal out of it?

You were shy of coming up with any answers to my questions about his identity. If I choose not to believe a word of the rubbish you write, that's my privilege. You can dismiss my Makro card story in the same manner. Do I care? No.

No it doesn't, there's no evidence that that is the case.  What names were on the cards?

What difference does it make what names they were.

If they used a customer card, a detailed invoice would be printed out. However, you will only receive a normal receipt. Accordingly, a barcode is used, in my opinion a dummy card, which reports to the system that a purchase has been made by an unregistered customer.

Is that so difficult to understand?

I've shopped at Makro going on 10 years and have never had a membership card. First time was with the wife's sister and husband who operated a shop store and they were members. We paid separately and their purchases as members were not charged VAT. The items we bought had the VAT added. Sam's Club in the US is a retail and wholesale operation. Consumers pay the tax on purchases, but resellers collect the tax at the point of sale.

In fact you do not need to hold a card to shop there or be a member in Thailand. Being a card holder does not get you any benefits unless you have a business.
UK you have to be a member and hold a card though.

Wow! You must have been n Thailand looooong time, maybe same like the bar girls love you loooooong time. Stop with your B.S.! At every Makro it stands, the thing below and more.image.png.45677006e3498f9f63a7072683ddd9e4.png

It was part of a promotion to attract shoppers. Like stamps or whatever. But when I came to cashing mine in, it was just "Cannot". So all my hard earned points were rubbish.
