Amphur officer won’t let us divorce

Hi

 

I’m from Denmark, my wife is Thai, we got married in the USA. We registered the marriage in Thailand through a Kor Ror 22. I’m now at the Amphur and the officer says we can’t get divorced in Thailand and that we have to get divorced at the US embassy. 
 

Is this correct?
 

My understanding was that even if you married abroad you can still divorce in Thailand if the marriage is registered here and we’re both residents here.

I think it's correct that the amphur can't divorce you. Not sure if possible through the embassy, but I think you can get divorced by the family court.

You can get divorced in Thailand even if you married elsewhere and did NOT register it here.  I know this because I former neighbor of mine divorce his wife, who he married in the USA, and never registered it Thailand.  He did have an attorney representing him, which he told me was expensive, but you can get a divorce in Thailand.  Get an attorney.  (an alternat method would be to go to Guam and stay for seven days, declare residency and get your US divorce there).

It's what I said. You can't do it in Thailand. (You're free to hire an attorney to do the job for you outside Thailand)

yes i got married in Bangkok to my wife who is from the UK she went back five years ago and I have two options bring her back and get divorced or go to the courts and claim desertion both will be expensive so I will remain married to her at 74 i don't want all the hassle as I'm enjoying my freedom and we remain good friends which makes it so much easier

I was quoted 200.000 to go through the courts my reaction was sod that she's in the UK and I am here neither of us are Thai but we married in Bangkok I was told that she must return to Thailand if we want a simple agreed divorce

My marrige was registered in Thailand and in my country after we get married in Thailand.I brought every paper i needed and get it verified at my embassy.Alot of paperwork needed.

After 7 years in my country we separated and that is easy We can do it online here After 1 year we get divorced online.My exwife brought the divorce documents to Thailand to the ministry of foreign affairs and our marriage was annulled in Thailand too.
