A fan does NOT work.

The drafts from floors below will easily get drawn into upper floors.

There IS NO FIX using just a fan, or 10 fans, or even 10,000 fans.

 

Anyone who had sat in a few science class would definitely know this.

Talking to neighbors is USELESS, of course, especially if your neighbors look like these two bums.

 

 

Anytime you have lower pressure in your unit, lower than the pressure outside your unit, smoke will be drawn in, inevitably.

Fans will just move the smoke around, but will NOT keep the smoke out.

Unfortunately, I have not yet found a decent animation showing air flow, higher-lower pressure, etc.

But, I will find one and add it later.

 

There is NO Way that a Fan will reduce the amount of smoke that enters your condo.

Of course, this is OBVIOUS.

Here is a diagram of STACK EFFECT which causes pressure differential based on temperature.

I too had a teen move into the ajoining duplex. I station a huge fan and pointed it towards the young lady. Obviouse she stopped as the fan was so annoying

Lucky me. I have to put up with the occasional smell of cigarette smoke & weed from balconies. Plus the sounds of coughing.

If you smoke then it will not be a bother.  But for those who do not smoke, suffer from COPD, other ailments or just the smell disgusts then it is a problem.  I just got off the elevator in my buidling and this guy who just moved in wreaked of cigarette smoke because he was at the designated smoking area fo the building.  I have had allergies for most of my life and the two things that bother me the most are cigarette smoke and cannabis smoke.

Agreed. I'm a non smoker & they bother me too. I hate the smell & have to close the windows at times. Talking to the apartment office was pointless.

I'd imagine anyone who has moved into a Condo does so because of a few reasons. 

1) Price - they are cheaper than houses

2) They have better amenities than houses (pool / gym etc)

3) They often have a better view than houses

4) They are in a better more central location than available houses (comes down to price again).

 

There are lots of news reports of one neighbour shooting another due to noise ? - neighbors in houses could be loud with dogs etc... 

 

The issue is really an anti-social smoker not caring where his smoke blows... But, he's in his home - so its a tricky one as there are no anti-smoking laws for Condo's.

 

Moving is often the response to these issues, but one problem could be swapped for another - Looking for a pet and smoke free Condo may be the best option - clearly plenty of research needs to be done before the next move.

It's difficult to get people to stop smoking, we have some apartments for rent and it's classed as a "None Smoking Building" we have good smoke alarms that are hard wired down to the security office, I know guest smoke on the balcony, we have a smoking area out the front of the building and also on the roof you can smoke, 

We have been very lucky over the last few years, nobody has set off the alarm, we would be notified almost right away the management are right on things like that, 

It always had me worried when they legalised dope, I have it written in the contract, "NO SMOKING" of any kind inside,

Neighbors burn garbage every night and the prevailing wind carry right to our house.  Been this way for years.

We have "Western" double-paned sliding glass windows and doors, and a rather air-tight, insulated home, and air con in the house.

You're not going to change your neighbors.  Anyway, that have the right to smoke cigarettes on their own property, or in our case, when there are no "burn bans" to burn refuge on their property.  So - either seal up your home, move, and live with it.  Complaining feels great but accomplishes nothing.

They smoke everywhere! Nothing can stop it.

 

Thailand is Okey for me - not so much smoking.

As an ex smoker I find that it is usually the cheap tobacco products that many now resort to have an obnoxious smell.

Otherwise the whiff of quality tobacco smoke on the breeze or such  rising from a balcony below remindingly pleasant.

That is quite different to the gross intense body odor filling the Immigration office I went to  today !

In reality tobacco smoke would have been as welcome as parfum in the instance.

I had exactly the same problem - we had a baby and korean dude was very inattentive.
