Everything from sets of golf clubs to kitchen appliances, along with the usual watches, cameras, clothing.

All of it clean and in good condition -- as would expect from Japanese.

 

Chiang Mai has plenty of Japanese expats living here.

As a result we have some superb Japanese restaurants.

But what about a second hand store, Japanese style?

Anyone know of such a store here?

 

I'm looking for small kitchen appliances.

But, truth be told, I just want to wander around and see what's available.

secondhand shops in cm are all Thai style with mostly Thai and Chinese goods with occasional products from various countries around the world, even Japan, Fuku and Arigato are pretty bleak for appliances with some furniture and niknacks couple others are worthless. If you want a real authentic Japanese secondhand shop then the nearest place that comes to mind is Bkk or Kagoshima. You can probably get there by tomorrow evening, shop all day Thursday and return with a load of authentic secondhand Japanese goods and be back Friday and come here to tell us all about it. Personally I’d just go to PowerBuy or Daiso and buy new stuff, much easier and cheaper in the long run.

I write this because the OP is making a genuine effort to do decent threads on here. Hang Dong, there's plenty around the Bantawai area. People buy container loads of second-hand Japanese stuff and bring them over to sell. Clothes, kitchen gear, knick-knacks, toys, the works.

Went there a few months back - OK if you want cheap, good quality used golf clubs, but it seems to be imported house clearances of deceased Japanese judging by the type and poor condition of the furniture etc.

Thai peoplle are not really into 2nd hand - you won't even see yard sales and such - usually if an item has any value, it is scooped up by a family member.

I used to order very Japan-specific stuff from https://buyee.jp/

 

They had quite a good service, so they would buy for you, then inspect, repackage if necessary, and forward to you in any country.

 

This is service in Japan, though, not local, but has an amazing variety of products available. I'm aware you were asking for local stores, just wanted to also give alternative in case it helps anyone.

Appreciate that comment @1FinickyOne, but Thai people's interest, or lack of it, is not really relevant.

While it is not local to Chiang Mai (acknowledged already), they do have second-hand items.

Looks like a Japan version of e-Bay.

In the past it was powered by Yahoo Auctions Japan, but now I see they have several other providers. It's convenient as it does (machine) translation, and charges only a small fee for their services. Also remember I was warned many times when descriptions of products were fishy. Overall, they were very good.

Well, good luck with it - I wish you the best - I would be a customer for something like that too... maybe you could start a trend for a younger generation of Thai people. 

I’ve browsed a couple of the Japanese second hand shops in BKK.  Ridiculously expensive for what’s on offer.
