bkk_mike Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago The only reason Thailand would get it is Red Bull pushing for it on their behalf. The route around chatuchak has at least got half decent transport links for people to get there other than by car as the roads will be totally screwed up...

I'm pretty sure I remember similar articles from 15 years ago. A bit off topic, but same as the reduction in prices of imported alcohol due to the 50% reduction in import duties and taxes! 1

And they have to guarantee this event for 5 years. In addition there are expenses for the infrastructure including safety constructions and much more. The benefit/return might be marginal. Even losses should be considered. But..hey... we're in Thailand😂 RB must have paid that already in brown enevelopes for the cop killer.

There never was a place on the F1 calendar for Thailand, since the circuit was approved by the Thai government only. The Thai government doesn't decide on the F1 calendar Oh, give over, you are sounding more and more like a troll with every post! 1

renaissanc Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago It's a waste of billions of Baht. Also, Bangkok companies and shops will have to declare a holiday for 2 or 3 days in advance plus on the race day, so they will suffer financially. 1
NORDO Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago maybe boss would immigrate to Thailand and be the Official.
connda Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago F1 Racing - by the wealthy, for the wealthy with the help of taxpayer money.

But looking at the existing traffic every day, how will it look like if they close many streets? And then how will it look like if many people (try to) visit that event? Chaos and more chaos. Do we really need that? Yeah - it's going to make already bad Bangkok traffic into a cluster-foxtrot. 1
Grumpy one Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago I thought F1 races were held every day and night in Thailand, or are these just the warmup laps

As I said - F1 Racing: By the Wealthy, For the Wealthy using taxpayer money to fund the event which the average Thai will never see in person, or even get close to. Well perhaps other than the noise.

purcho Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago Never happen . F1 requires organization of the highest level. Needless to say ....
bamnutsak Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago This one gets filed with High-Speed Rail, Education Reforms, Drugs Crackdown, Elimination of Burning Season and an end to Bangkok's Traffic Woes. 1
edwinchester Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago Can't see Thailand getting a GP especially if they propose yet another boring street circuit. Madrid has just been announced as the new venue for the Spanish GP from 2026 and is yet another street circuit.

The Melbourne is not strictly a street circuit as although it is close to city it is held in Albert Park which is a dedicated race track within the park. It was built back in the 50's or 60's and many races have been held there over the years.

Far better to hold it in the Hualampong, China Town, Rattanakosin, Sanam Luang areas. Would be a great showcase for promoting Thailand. Would totally <deleted> the traffic for a week, but look at the exposure it would bring to the country. They would definitely breach the precious 40 million visitors per year once they did this. Here's a street circuit that would give good visuals and get a 50 lap race in the F1 alloted time. How about sukumvit from soi 4 to soi Cowboy and around through all the sois. The pits could be in Cowboy and the bar girls could make up the pit crews and change the tyres and refuel the cars.
AhFarangJa Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago Guarantee there will be a motorcyclist driving the wrong way down the middle during the race, closely followed by a Tuk Tuk. 1 1
Dirk Z Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago Wonderful plan. Bangkok can use some more noise, pollution and safety issues.

Apart from 2 weeks prior to the race, and 1 week after - when the stands, commercial areas and track barriers are erected and dismantled - these roads are public roads, and can be travelled by anyone. I have used these roads many times.

Here's a street circuit that would give good visuals and get a 50 lap race in the F1 alloted time. Its been touted for many years .. Birabongse Bhanudej designed a street race around rattotaksin island in the 50s. The route that others are posted is banned - there was a law passed in 2013 banning any such streetrace around the historic sites of Bangkok. https://sg.news.yahoo.com/formula-one-stalls-bangkok-law-bans-car-racing-102346416.html I dont know why its suggested, it seems that Phua Thai PM's are keen to push the idea but are unaware of the laws - this may be one reasons for the chattujack proposal. Its an interesting subject with a long history, there should be a wiki page that can be referred and added too every time some politician comes up with the latest idea. Bottom line is, how much cash would it really generate and how much needs to be laid out and wether or not that should be spent on more important infrastructure projects - I also suspect its one big excuse for a lot of people to fill their pockets. 1

Earlier than that, too. A race had been planned for December 1939, but other things interrupted it. See: https://jaapgrolleman.com/driver-spotlight-the-prince-in-blue/ "Bira also planned to organise a race in his homeland, Thailand, and the inaugural Bangkok Grand Prix was set to be held on the 10th of December 1939, but the war equally destroyed those plans."
