Think you could go back to 1997, and this disgraceful specimen.

He wasn't as bad as claimed. His period marked a period of sustained prosperity for the UK unseen in previous Conservative administrations. The UK’s performance was pretty good during the Blair era.  The UK’s growth of GDP per capita – 1.42% a year between 1997 and 2010 – was better than in any of the other “G6” countries: Germany (1.26%), the US (1.22%), France (1.04%), Japan (0.52%) and Italy (0.22%).  in 2010, the UK had a level of GDP per capita 17% higher than in 1997; over the same period US GDP per capita had grown by 14%.  The UK‟s high GDP per capita growth was driven by strong growth in productivity (GDP per hour), which was second only to the US, and good performance in the jobs market (which was better than in the US). The UK‟s relative economic performance appears even stronger in the years prior to 2008 before the Great Recession engulfed the developed world.  Source:  https://blogs.lse.ac.uk/politicsandpolicy/uk-growth-and-productivity-1997-to-2008/

And yes, part of the initial success was due to the great Maggie Thatcher's rescue of the UK economy. However, it took a solid Bank of England performance and a responsible fiscal policy to ensure the long term success that the Blair administration delivered.

Most of Blair's detractors are from the Jeremy Corbyn school of chaos who hate Blair for some of his administration's foreign policy decisions.

The Blair fiscal policies were far more responsible and conservative than the idiocy that characterized successive  Conservative administrations that followed.

Best conservative PM that Labour ever had.

IMO Cameron was the last real statesman.

Cameron could have been a good prime minister.

I know he was a toff, but he knew what was going on.

Absolutely no sympathy whatsoever all self inflicted and I hope he's too exhausted to continue the lie fuelled rat.

He and Reeves have been a total disgrace since taking office, they deserve all they get in the way of pain because that's what they are doing to the nation.

Quit then, Keir.

Give the job to someone who can hack it!

You are a dreadful PM, btw. The worst in living memory by far and that is saying something!

Merry Christmas!

Liz Truss was so much worse, and Boris Johnson too. If it hadn't been for these two, he wouldn't have got in in the first place. Sunak left to mop up the mess caused by them was an impossible task. Farage and his mates didn't help by taking a large amount of conservative votes.

Personally I don't like him but some of the alternatives are scary from both parties.

Do you have any data to back up these claims?

How can there be data to back up

Unless there is a quick U-Turn on the workers rights Bill, millions of part time workers are going to be unemployed.

Unless there is a quick U-Turn on the employers NI rises, millions of other workers are going to be unemployed.

The data will be in the monthly rising unemployment figures after the start date of April 2025, if not sooner.

Who are the wealth creators who have fled and how much has it actually cost the UK economy. I offer that there are not many and that most if not all were already  engaged in an aggressive tax minimization strategy.

You can google something like ' Wealth creators fleeing the UK " and draw your own conclusions. These people dont normally perform a song and dance and just leave. But here is one that was rather vocal

Quote

“I am taking all of my money and investments out of the UK. The government are driving people with money away from the country. Why would people stay in the UK?”

https://www.cityam.com/pimlico-plumbers-founder-flushed-out-of-britain-over-fear-of-labours-tax-rules/

Sure, they will be involved in aggressive tax minimisation, which is not really an issue as it is what they have always done.

Where it costs the UK economy is by closing businesses, non investment, people losing their jobs, the welfare bill rises, the income tax take drops, the National Insurance take drops. Other taxes have to rise to offset the fall in other taxes.

Only a Socialist thinks a high tax model coupled with low wages is a recipe for success.

Everyone else understands that to create growth, people need to have money in their pocket to create that growth, taxing to the hilt halts that growth.

As Labour are now finding out with 0% growth in Q3 and most likely a negative figure for Q4. Which is quite good going considering that there  was 1.2% growth across Q's 1 & 2.

Did it ?

So it wasn't anything to do with.

1. Raiding pension funds

2. Selling off Gold Reserves

3. PFI on steroids

The great illusion of being a fiscally responsible Government.

Not when there is nothing of substance to replace them.

True, there's a dire need for substance and backbone in British politics.  Starmer and his government are by no means perfect, and I find it very frustrating that he/they don't have the backbone to get back into the single EU market, but what else is there?

Official confirmation of my post above

The Office for National Statistics has just revised down its estimate of GDP growth in the third-quarter of this year, to 0%, down from 0.1% previously expected. That shows the UK economy flatlined in July-September.

And this highlights the terminal stupidity of Rachel from Customer complaints and the lapdogs sent out to issue comments

Quote

A Treasury spokesperson says:

“More than half of employers will either see a cut or no change in their National Insurance bills.

Right

1. Lowering the NI threshold from £9100 to £5000

2. Raising the rate from 13.8% to 15%

Affects every single employer who employs and pays people above £5000 a year.

The stench of desperation is getting overpowering.

My attitude to Starmer was defined by his absurd "taking of the knee" in his Westminster office when

Black Lives Matter ruled the universe.

Dreadful PMs have been a feature of British politics for the last 8 years.

They're symptoms not the problem. No-one wants to talk about the problem and rectify it.

it's the UK population that needs a break from Starmer.

It took 14 years to get a break from the Tories!  Let's see how the UK feels at the next General Election.
