A mate with diabetes says he pees gallons but doesn’t drink that much to supply so much pee to his bladder

Probably 6-8 times for me including 3 times at night, not an issue i drink a lot of fluid.

 

Urine changes colour during the day mine starts off orange by evening it's straw colour, i drink loads including 3 electrolytes most days and exercise.

 

I'm experimenting with Cialis 5mg daily currently, I'm seeing if it has any effect on getting up at night, giving it 3 weeks and if no effect I'll stop taking it. It's meant to reduce BPH symptoms so for me a bit of a test

As stated earlier, pretty sure my diet has definitely helped, possibly shrinking my prostate a bit, if not quite a bit.   As most symptoms of the past, has dissipated.  The need or urge to P all day, especially mid sleep.  Increased volume & stream. 

 

May help explain why the diet (low sugar / carb) is mostly responsible ...

He did not mention alcohol which has a lot of sugar . So I suppose if like me you enjoy a couple of beers in the evening , following the Keto diet will not help ?

It will certainly help, by limiting your total sugar, carb intake.  Could even adjust you eating window.  Since sipping a few, guessing you are not waking up with the sun at 6 AM.

 

I'm not full on Keto, but did cut most sugar and starchy carbs out.  Plus intermittent fasting help quite a bit also.  That 15-18 fast overnight & early morning 2000 - 1200 noon, leaving an ~8 hr window for eating.  

 

0600 black coffee

1200 first lite meal, eggs (protein & fat)

1500 largest meal (protein, fat, lite carb)

1700 lite meal (same as 1500)

2000 any snacking done before

 

Rare to drink alcohol, maybe one 490ml a month, maybe.  Doubt if I had 12 beers the past year though.  Can't remember the last time I had more than 2 of those, the past 10 years.

I pee every 40-60 minutes and it is clear. This is because I drink 3+ litres of water per day. Plain water, cold teas, and/or Singha soda water. I don't drink booze anymore - perhaps 1-2 measures per quarter...

 

I taper my fluid intake in the evening so I only get up to pee 1-2 times.

 

I am just shy of 60.

How much volume are you P'ing out ? 

 

If P'ing out 1 L or more, I think I'd be cutting back on the intake.  I guess I drink about 1.5 L, maybe 2 L max daily.  70 yrs old, and usually don't P at all after going to sleep.  About a 6 hr stretch, sleeping.

 

That's with drinking 500 ml between 1800-1200/midnight, as I keep a half liter bottle next to the bed at night.  Usually finish it.

I do so because that is recommended. Every doctor I tell that to gives me there approval - tells me I am good patient! US army policy here was 'if you don't need to pee all the time, you ain't drinking enough. So a US airman told me. I don't take notes on output volume. And I try not to drink at night or I'll wake more frequently...

IMO you're taking it too much, if need to P every hour or so.   Along with interrupting your deep sleep, as that's when the body does a bit of repair work.

 

 

Longer REM helps you immune system, or so I read ...

You seem to have missed the point I made very clearly in my original response: I only pee once an hour in the day and only 1-2 times per night. I get quality sleep. So thanks, but I am good. And again, I will take my advice from a Dr.

You really think P'ing hourly or a couple times overnight after sleeping is normal ?

 

More than a few studies on the importance of REM, and interrupted sleep.  UP2U, but in IMO, your doc is wrong.  I don't need a medical degree to know that 

 

How many times a day as a younger man did you urinate ?  There may be a reason you are urinating more, though if coming out clear, that is an indication your intake may for a bit high.    Nothing wrong with that,  just would be a bit annoying to me.

 

Bottle water folks will tell you to stay hydrated, or shall I say, over hydrated, as profitable for them.

He says a “couple of aspirins” – that could mean 2x300mg – sound seriously too much when compared with the daily 81mg, as taken by some.

 

Be interested to know if anyone has been prescribed this aspirin or diclofenac solution to reduce night time bathroom trips?

Pee 2 or 3 times in the night...

 

It is fine I only start to worry if I don't pee, at least I know my Kidneys are working

 

10 years ago could only Pee a bit maybe 2 x in 24 hrs =  Hospital = was Stage 5 CKD !!  =   do not want to go on Dialysis or the expense -  change of diet = stage 2 past few years

 

So happy to pee a lot

That sounds like way too much aspirin, along with diclofenac should not be taken long term, having some serious side effects.

 

I'd be surprised if any 'real' doc would suggest either.

Another incomplete Article. With no word .mentions the poster BPS or BPH. Enlarged Prostate is one of the more common reasons for increased urination activities.

Please make your homework first...

Speaking for myself, about 15 to 20 times every 24 hours.
But there are now two reasons for this, the first is that I am 77 years old and then you inevitably get prostate problems, the second is that I have high blood pressure which means you have to take pee pills daily, among other things, to get the pressure down.

The most common cause of over regular peeing in elderly men is enlarged prostate and yet there is no mention of it in this article.

Peeing more often when the weather is cool is a biological response. Urine is a liquid "heat sink" which requires the body to divert blood to the bladder to keep it warm and maintain core body temperature.

Which is also why during cool/cold weather you may find yourself cold and shivering and dreading having to get up to go pee - but then finding yourself feeling warmer (and sleeping better) after you've peed because the body no long has to heat that extra liquid so it can divert more warm blood to other parts of the body.

That was a very valuable lesson learned early in my Army career. Ease off on the liquid intake in the evening and take a whiz before crawling into the sleeping bag - even if you don't really feel the urge to.

And doctors have debunked the "you need to drink 8 glasses of water (2 liters) per day years ago. They recommend that you "drink when you are thirsty" and not because you think you have to.

And when you get to 50+ you should probably have a prospate test every year. They don't do the "rubber glove and vaseline" tests anymore (in most places) as they can simply do a blood and/or urine test.

The prostate produces that fluid that mixes with the sperm from your testicles to make "semen". It's what gets your little swimmers up the pipe and into the race.

If you aren't having as much sex as you used to, your prostate wants to work, but it can't because there's no need to "make the milk".

This is probably what causes prostate problems (and prostate cancer) in men as the organ falls into disuse and the body starts thinking it's an "unwanted organism" in the body and tries to get rid of it by attacking it, leading it to become enlarged - or developing cancer.

About 15 or so years ago there were 2 medical studies produced, one in England and one in Australia, dealing with prostate issues.

One looked at men in various occupations and the frequency they had sex. Accountants, construction workers, athletes, priests and so on.
I recall that it was the men in occupations like "priest" or other occupations where men didn't get a lot of sex were also the ones more likely to develop prostate cancer.

The other study asked men how often they had sex (masturbation and intercourse or - whatever).

Again, the men who admitted to sending their little seamen off to battle more often were less likely to develop prostrate problems than the people who admitted to rarely busting a nut, even when they were alone.

So the bottom line was, the more often your prostrate does the job it's supposed to do, the less likely it is to develope into a medical problem.

But if you "ain't gettin' any" and can hardly even see your twig and berries, let alone give them a good <deleted> now and then, there's a good chance you could develop problems as you get older.

And if you find yourself having a really urgent need to pee quite often - but it's coming out in a dribble that forces you to stand over the bowl (or up against the urinal) - you may want to pop into a local clinic for a blood test.

Those little clinics are scattered all over the place and they can take the (blood/urine) samples and send them to a lab for analysis. If you know where they are, you can go to one of the labs directly to do it.

When I was working in Afghanistan I used to go to a lab in South Pattaya, just off #3 road, and get a full slate of tests done every year.
They had a "package" deal where they tested you for almost everything that could be tested, including STDs, cholesterol levels, vitamin levels and things like liver and prostate function.
And you'd get a little booklet with all the results noted and with any problems noted.

(The only negative result I ever had was my LDL cholesterol levels were usually at the "upper end" of the healthy range, bordering on entering the danger zone.)

But seeing this thread, I'm thinking maybe it's time I go get another set of tests done.


But you can just get tested for the one thing if that's all you are concerned about and want to save a few baht.
