Speculate. What is in Greenland that makes Trump say it is vital to US security?

Greenland Mineral Resources
Greenland is rich in mineral resources. The country’s unique geology, shaped by millions of years of tectonic activity, has created a diverse array of mineral deposits. Here are some of the key mineral resources found in Greenland:

  • Rare Earth Elements (REEs): Greenland is believed to have significant deposits of REEs, including neodymium, dysprosium, and samarium. The Kvanefjeld project, operated by Energy Transition Minerals Ltd, is one of the largest known REE deposits in the world.
  • Zinc: Greenland has several zinc deposits, including the Kvanefjeld project, which also contains zinc. The country’s zinc resources are considered significant, with estimated reserves of over 1.5 million tonnes.
  • Uranium: Although uranium mining is banned in Greenland, there are still significant uranium deposits, including the Kvanefjeld project. The country’s uranium resources are estimated to be around 368 million pounds (168,000 tonnes).
  • Cobalt: Greenland has cobalt deposits, particularly in the Ilímaussaq alkaline complex, which is also rich in REEs.
  • Nickel: The country has nickel deposits, including the Sarfartoq nickel-copper deposit.
  • Iron ore: Greenland has significant iron ore deposits, including the Disko Bay iron ore project.
  • Gold: There are several gold deposits in Greenland, including the Nalunaq gold mine, which operated from 2002 to 2015.
  • Tantalum: Greenland has tantalum deposits, particularly in the Ilímaussaq alkaline complex.
  • Niobium: The country has niobium deposits, often associated with tantalum and REEs.
  • Lithium: Greenland has lithium deposits, including the Solo and Good Setting Lithium Projects in the James Bay region.

Ok. Lots of countries have those. The question Is WHY GL? Is it just that he thinks Greenland is the lowest hanging fruit? Does he really think juvenile school-yard bullying is going to work on the world stage? It didn't even work for him in NY real estate 🤔🤷

Trump will corning the ice-cube market!  "Ice Ice Baby!"

No they don't. Few countries have such a large mineral resource endowment, and those countries have exploited most of their mineral resources, certainly the easily extracted ones. Greenland, together with Antarctica, represent virgin unexplored land. Remember, the recognised deposits listed are just the ones around the edges, 80% of Greenland is still covered by an ice sheet.

So any speculation as to why Greenland matters?

It's the only available open space large enough to hold the Panama America canal once we repossess it.

Yes Danes. The man who wrote the Art of the Deal is coming after Greenland and he's serious this time.  Looks like you're going to have to surrender that prime piece of real estate. Don't feel bad though. The US will also be annexing Canada, and wrenching the canal back from Panama.

Obviously more is going on than meets the eye. I'm not taking any of these statements at face value, but Trump doesn't just make stuff up for the fun of it. There's a purpose to all of these statements, even if that purpose is something other than what he's saying directly.

So any speculation as to why Greenland matters? What is hiding in or under there?

I'm just waiting for Putin to claim Svalbard! It is totally legit when Trump acts like he does

What a complete moron.

The Greenlenders have obviously nothing to say. Orign, Greenland belonged to Norway,

NATO might have quite a bit to say, to Putin's delight. Trump is being totally played.

I can speculate. When I've heard him ranting about Greenland in his recent speeches, he's forever noting how BIG Greenland is. Given what Stormy has told us, plus his obsession with Arnold Palmer's junk, I do think big has something to do with his fascination, as the impish Universe seems to have withheld big from him, save for his belly.

Could be wrong, but it's as good an explanation as any. It isn't as if he's claiming the Northwest Territories or Antarctica or Baffin Island, all of which are not particularly well explored or exploited.

What Trump certainly doesn't realize is that maps using the Mercator projection method severely exaggerate the size of Greenland.

Even though he loves to downplay climate change, Trump figures that soon Greenland will be prime waterfront property.  Don't forget he's the greatest at whatever he does or even thinks about.

As I wrote in another sub-forum here:

Secutity interests? This coming from a guy that is contemplating exiting NATO? The same guy calling global warming a HOAX, but he has realised that the Greenland ice is melting.

Below the ice, there are incredible amounts of raw materials of all sorts. To him, it's just another business deal: Secure those raw materials for the US.

An interesting thought.

If Trump cannot buy Greenland and invades Greenland then an an attack on ANY NATO country is an attack on all NATO countries and is to be repelled by all NATO countries. I suspect when NATO was set up nobody thought about one NATO member attacking another NATO country.

As the USA is still a NATO member (at least at the moment) I wonder what the NATO troops will do. At the very least they can kick all the US bases out of their respective countries, but will they retaliate against the US mainland?

Also if the US tries to annex Greenland, I wonder what the US troops would do if they are ordered to attack that country?

As an additional item, I  wonder what the US based troops would do if they are ordered to attack Panama?

Interesting thoughts on this subject. Thank you for the replies.

After watching how all this has developed, I personally am inclined to believe Scott Adams (of Dilbert fame) got closest to the mark of what is happening.  Trump is simply breaking the fake news.

With a few days perspective, I tend to agree that all of this is just distraction and misdirection. But I thoroughly discount that it is any kind of nefarious plot or dark agenda by Trump to steal wealth. What's going on here is a psyop much bigger in scope and with much larger consequences for humanity than a few dollars or resources. That is way too boring and menial for an operation that took this much planning and coordination. Expand your thinking. Whatever is coming, it's going to be bigger than any of us can imagine.
