any time you ever see Soi 6 or Soi 6/1 being discussed here, it's almost always in reference to Pattaya. Where were you thinking it was?

Why should that be?

....I mean, not just a broom.

A baseball bat works too!

When God said, “Let there be light!” Bob & Digger with their baseball bat and broom handle said, “Say Please !!

Some kids pee their name in the snow. Bob & Digger can pee their name's into concrete !!

When the Boogeyman goes to sleep every night he checks his closet for Bob & Digger with their baseball bat and broom handle !!

Bob & Digger once hit a horse on the chin with their baseball bat and broom handle. Its descendants are now known as giraffes !!

Maybe this binary thinking is why you hate Thailand so much ???...

Mark didn't write there are 'no pavements', he wrote there are 'very few'... and thats true of a lot of area's of Thailand, though in most built up areas, there are of course pavements / sidewalks...

... most are hardly navigable by foot, let alone motorcycle - but where there exists the combination of space and gridlocked traffic, this space (pavements / sidewalks) becomes utilised as an over-flow road - and thats an issue when pedestrians use the same space.

In Chiang Mai, many of the "good" sidewalks have been blocked by electric / telecom utility boxes, advertising signs, road signs, and big holes with sketchy panels covering them.  It keeps the motorbikes from speeding through while pedestrians climb through the obstacle course.

He [digger70] is another vigilante hardman, who like you will carry around bit of wood to use as a weapon against these motorcycle pest...

... but if you are unable to follow your own thread, its of no surprise that you get into so much difficulty here, bob !!!...

read my original thread on this topic from last night.

the ignorant pig was driving very fast, to which most people have come out in support.

I only read this thread.

And are you referring to one rider, or more?

Sounds like you are part of the problem and should know better - maybe one day some large farang will give you a good slapping so that you can learn

#1 your poll doesn't mention  or specify 'driving fast', to which I feel most people would vote no

#2 I would be surprised if MANY people have shown SUPPORT for motorbikes driving FAST down sidewalks

When I'm walking, I get out of their way.

When I'm riding on the pavement (very occasionally) I do so slowly, for as short a distance as possible, and always giving way and showing respect to pedestrians.

Sounds like you are part of the problem and should know better - maybe one day some large farang will give you a good slapping so that you can learn

No it doesn't... It doesn't sound like that at all.. .

It does sound like 2long is capable of more than binary thinking and recognises the grey area into which we may sometimes stray...  he recognises that while 'straying into that grey area' he is very respectful of the fact that he's stepped outside of normal boundaries as we would recognise them in the west.

He [2long] shows a healthy respect for common sense, and also an understanding of practicality.

...and, just incase you wanted to apply a binary interpretation of above - its clear, that riding on the pavement / sidewalk quickly is obviously wrong...  But doing so, when it's necessary and is carried out very carefully, then its not so bad...

Thus: a 3rd Option could have been added to the poll - riding down the sidewalk at walking speeds showing respect for and giving way to pedestrians...

... the issue of course is complacency, where one person is considerate, many are not - so the issue still remains.

Yeah I know Soi 6, even if I've never spent much time there. I thought you were talking about Sukhumvit for some reason.

Don't mind me. I'm jet lagged and travel weary.

I grew up In Somerset, so I know how troublesome these Dorset and Devon types can be :)

When the pavement is narrow enough I block them and force them to go back or straight on to the road. It is just one Thai and I am a big guy.

One more thing, I notice it is only men who do this and never a woman.

I should be allowed to ride on the sidewalk, but no one else!

I have never seen a farang ride a motorbike on the pavement, but if ever I see one riding towards me there will be consequences, and that is not a threat, it is a promise.

So what if the motor cyclist coming towards you is wearing a full face helmet?

You with the Saddo emotican. Do you ride your motorbike on the pavement?

What about the level of ignorance displayed by the THAI motorbike driver who was going full speed on a SIDEWALK??...

Any thoughts on that?

The police are hardly going to arrest themselves,  are they.

How true. I once stopped a motorbike riding on the sidewalk and the rider opened up his jacket.

He was a policeman.
