Scores of Russians Injured in Bus Crash At Pattaya Toll Booth

Does not appear to be anything that could explain this crash.

Well, of course, many accidents here are the result of drivers on the phone, and hardly looking at the road.

Could be.

The culture here accepts so many driving habits that contravene to driving laws and regulations.

Phone, oh yes, the phone, cannot address that. No one would want to see a crackdown on using the phone while driving. Everyone knows that the phone is a must, anywhere, and whatever distraction and casualties it could cause is acceptable.

Then 'speed', oh yes, speed. Well, was in a hurry. That explains it and makes it acceptable.

Then overcoming other vehicles. Well, was going too slow for me. That explains it. And makes it acceptable.

Nobody complains about anything that is happening on the roads.

No one would listen.

'Scores of Russians Injured.'  In England, a score = 20, therefore there was only 1 score +7 = 27 Russians  on the bus. 10 were uninjured, (27-10) leaving 17 injured. By my reckoning that is not even a dozen and a half (12 + 6 =18) let alone 'scores'!!

and who the heck uses a score in counting nowadays 555

The incident has raised concerns about road safety, especially for tourists, and local officials have pledged to review safety measures and improve oversight of tourist transport services to reduce the risk of similar accidents in the future.

Translation........Local officials spouted off the usual claptrap in order to make them look important, and caring. Whereas in reality they will crawl back into their holes, do nothing, until the next accident, when they will rinse and repeat. Nobody cares, life is cheap here, sadly.

According to another news outlet the driver was 74yrs old.

Another (maybe same) outlet said initial reports brake failure as cause.

Maybe Alzheimer patient who just forgot to brake?

Preliminary investigations suggest that the bus may have lost control due to excessive speed or abrupt maneuvers, but authorities have yet to confirm the exact cause of the crash.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the bus may have lost control due to the driver having been concentrated on his smartphone instead of being concentrated on the road?

For going out on the roads, you have to consider any day your last day, no matter how good a driver you are

America you have a 1 out of 104 lifetime chance of dying in a car accident.

I already have had 2 friends die in accidents.

It's gotta be a lot higher here in Thailand.

My wife hired a songtao driver to take us to the top of a mountain.

We heard the driver died in a car accident.

Could have been us.

If I remember correctly, we had to promise him a tip if he would slow down. 😳

I think telling car manufacturers that they can only make cars as fast as the speed limit would have a greater effect.

Most cars can go over 200kmh.
Why build them?

Good point.  Several woke governments in the Western world have ordered manufacturers to cease producing ICE cars by 2030 or 35 or whatever.

In other words, governments can do whatever they want  (even in "democracies"), even if most people think such actions to be lunatic.  As far as I know, no manufacturers protested against these governmental decrees.

Some years back (forget how many...) recall a new law requiring inter city buses to have seat belts and enforce that with threat of X thousand Thai baht for non compliance. That enforcement lasted a few months, like most laws. The seat belts are there & now it's up to passengers to use or skip at own peril. Problem may also be unbelted passengers flying about the inside of bus: wouldn't want to be hit by 100 kilo Russian auntie

So they stuffed the Russians into a Pattaya mini bus. Nothing says compassion like terrorizing people after a  a crash trauma.  The mini bus drivers are awful and 10 burly Russians with luggage crammed in a small bus will not have been pleasant . Perhaps some tourism  person will come along with a tin of bisciuts and a wai for a photo op to show how much they care.

He was heading flat out for a lane that was closed, looks like he did not see it the red X, and tried to swerve into a lane that was open, but way too late and way too fast - no chance!!. Injured passengers on the bus, in the cars he ploughed into and the motorway staff that were directing people through, he just ruined so many peoples day!!!

Anyway, he was driving way too fast for that situation passing the toll booth, no matter it's free during new year or in usual operation. I assume his vision is impaired or he dozed off

Why not read at least the bold print.

It was not that mini bus that you write about

Even the toughest tour operator could not stuff 37 people in an 11 seater.

With the number of tourists visiting Thailand on the rise, accidents like this highlight the ongoing challenges related to road safety in high-traffic tourist areas. Authorities have urged both residents and visitors to remain cautious on the roads and to be mindful of their safety, particularly in congested regions near popular destinations.

That paragraph reads as if it is the fault of foreigners.

Wrong. The lane he was in was coned off, so he tried to make it into the left hand lane, then BANG!

He should have been far over on the left for large vehicles regardless, the coned off area was easy pass for cars.

It was toll-free for the holidays when the accident happened. Bus driver likely thought he could go through the right hand MPass lanes. Gwen sonteen.

With the speed he was going you can see he wasn't driving with due care and attention. If his brakes did indeed fail (they didn't), then he should have stayed on the main highway and allowed the bus to decelerate under its own momentum.

bus unexpectedly changed lanes and struck the stationary SUV, which was waiting in line at the toll booth. The force of the collision caused serious damage to both vehicles, with the bus suffering significant front-end damage and the SUV's rear end being heavily crushed

What is this, Pravda? A big story about 27 slightly-injured Russkies but not a word about whoever was unfortunate enough to have been in the SUV!
