Courtesy: Wikipedia In an ambitious drive to bridge the educational gap, the Ministry of Education in Thailand is poised to distribute learning tablets to 600,000 high school students by June 2025. This initiative aims to empower students with the capability to access learning resources anytime, anywhere, fostering a more inclusive educational environment. Siripong Angkasakulkiat, who serves as an assistant to the education minister and official spokesman for the ministry, recently confirmed the timely progress of this educational programme. The effort is viewed as a pivotal step in reducing educational inequality and enhancing digital learning opportunities across the nation. Currently, the ministry is meticulously preparing the terms of reference (ToR) for the procurement of these tablets. Ensuring that the devices are functional and effective is paramount, and the ToR is anticipated to be finalised within this month. The meticulous planning is set to see the first batch of devices delivered by late May or early June, aligning perfectly with the commencement of the 2025 academic year. Looking ahead, Mr Siripong disclosed that the programme plans to broaden its reach in the 2026 fiscal year. The next phase will extend the scheme to junior high students, specifically targeting schools already adept at managing digital tools. This phased approach will ultimately ensure all remaining high school students are equipped with these tablets, marking a significant milestone in Thailand's educational advancements. The tablets are designed not just as mere gadgets, but as comprehensive educational tools. The content, carefully developed during the 2024 fiscal year, is scheduled for a trial run within this month. The Education Ministry has opted to lease these devices, a strategic decision aimed at managing costs and ensuring that the technology remains current. Through this initiative, the Ministry of Education underscores its commitment to educational equity, adaptation to technological advancements, and the enhancement of learning experiences for Thai students. As schools prepare to integrate these tools into educational curricula, the programme promises to transform the learning landscape for hundreds of thousands of young learners across the country. With the academic year approaching, both educators and students are eagerly anticipating the role these new digital resources will play in shaping a brighter, more accessible future for education in Thailand. The Ministry's provision of digital tablets to Thai students marks a pioneering endeavour in the country's efforts to modernise its educational infrastructure and bolster student engagement, reported Bangkok Post. -- 2025-01-08 2 3

Popular Post Tropicalevo Posted January 8 Popular Post Posted January 8 What a load of PR rubbish. 600,000 students? Presumably all in Bangkok. Popular Post OneMoreFarang Posted January 8 Popular Post Posted January 8 How many of those students have mobile phones? How many currently use their mobile phones regularly for learning? Anybody? More than 5%? If they currently don't use their devices for learning, what does it change if the screens are a little bigger? But of course, the purpose of this exercise is that someone make a lot of money with the purchase of those tablets. Who really cares for what they will be used and if all that makes any sense. TiT Correct, even if only a miserable Bht 100 for each table is a nice little earner, but then of course it will all be above board carefully watched over by the graft experts. 1

steven100 Posted January 8 Posted January 8 This is a great idea ...... These tablets will get alot of use for gambling and games. The students will learn how much they've lost each week on football.
black tabby12345 Posted January 8 Posted January 8 Tablets give away. Another Core Policy of Pheu Thai, other than occasional small money handout. That scheme initially took place over a decade ago(as far as I remember). More online game addicts among Thai Youngs to come... 1

khunPer Posted January 8 Posted January 8 Back in Yingluck's administration the government gave each shool-child a tablet. She showed a "vote buying" iPad when promising it during her election campaign, the kids got some cheap Chinese stuff without any useable software. My daughter was in primary in an EP-school at that time. They never used the tablet, as it was useless. It lived in a drawer in our house, and after some years it left the premises together with other electronic-garbage for recycling. In high school – which was international here in Thailand for my daughter – they used their smartphones in education, which worked very well. Same now, where she is in final IB-year in Europe. However, pen and paper are in some level on it's way back into schools. Any smart device is of no real value, if there is no equally smart and useable software following it...
thesetat Posted January 8 Posted January 8 7 hours ago, brewsterbudgen said: Most were defective and sent back to China! The tablets then were cheap and did not last for more than a few months. But more important was that schools were unable to utilize them as a teaching tool. In my childs school they were given them but then told they could not use them except for a short period in the classroom. They were useless and the kids used them when possible to play. They never aided in any learning even when they worked 1
J Branche Posted January 8 Posted January 8 My observation when visiting girlfriends family. Tablets will be used to play games and watch videos. They need to install software that if they don't use learning software or programs and advance through the lessons then only 15 minutes of free time use is allowed. My observation of family children is "quite is better" most times. Maybe save face, maybe to not feel uneducated. There is serious lack of initiative, understanding, and/or desire to look for answers or review resources to help in any way. Most lack any desire to understand how any process works. Steps needed to reach a result. There can be something broken that could be fixed by reviewing a YouTube video or website and most will not attempt or look for the answer.
