Outside of Bangkok I don't think that I was ever able to get a taxi driver to use the meter.

Many apps....try again

If that man goes behind bars &  kicked out of this kingdom, she is going to have to find a new Walking ATM.

Why would he be kicked out for a traffic offence?

That kind of loyalty would get her a job in a certain US President's office   😃

What he committed isn't merely a minor offence(speeeind, or drink driving without further incidents).

Seriously injured an innocent Thai national as the result of drink/reckless driving.

He might  be more than willing to make an out-court settlement(giving enough money to the victim) to evade charges against him and resulting expulsion from here.

since even murder case can be dealt with that way in this kingdom(what I heard over a decade ago).

That is going to be the worst hangover ever, don't understand people who drink and drive in Pattaya, taxis are so cheap and available 24/7.

I don't think most people set out to drive drunk, they just have no self control once they start, along with a fair amount of irresponsibility in their personality for failing to plan ahead. Seems like there will be no end to this kind of thing. I'm not a hypocrite, I was an alcoholic and did jail for drunk driving. I once rear ended someone very slightly by not braking quickly enough. No injuries thank god and that was the last time I got drunk. I don't drive at all except for motorbikes in less populated areas, as you said there are so many alternatives, and my drinking has diminished to near 0, I just don't want to put myself into that state, I don't like it, and I like to take in all of life's details as well as remember them clearly. The thing about these people is you don't know how much of this behavior is triggered by the alcohol and how much is the person they actually are. Some people are Jekyll/Hyde personality drinkers, perfectly nice until the booze hits and then instant ɑsshoIe. I feel especially bad for the vendor who couldn't afford his own hospital care. If I'd been there I would have helped with that. Hopefully his head injuries won't have lasting consequences.

It would be a traffic offence.   Although the vendor was injured it was not "serious" enough for him to have to go to hospital.   And he hasn't been found liable yet, has he?

Nothing like a drunk woman to get things sorted out.

She told me you were a better lover too.

Bitch.

However, the foreigner’s Thai girlfriend refused to accept the blame, accusing the victim of faking his injuries, and having connections with a top police chief.

Did the somtam seller say "Do you know who I know?"

Just noticed she had her face blurred...usually with foreigner crime they put their face on display for world to see now and in future.

Why the **** did they arrest her? for what? she didn't do anything.

TBH sounds like a great girl. Sorry for the som tam vendor but there's 3 sides to every story.

She can be arrested under

Section 367 of the Thai Penal Code, creating a public disturbance.

Section 137 of the Thai Penal Code, Giving False Statements to Officials.

TBH - she sound like mouthy Ho.. he was pished up and hit a street cart !!..

I'm sure the vendor was milking the incident for all its worth - nevertheless, its seems the foreigner was drink driving - he doesn't have any basis for any defence.

Of course she would.  If her BF goes into lockup, or gets deported, she loses her meal ticket.

Nah could eat som tam from the roadside!

One drunk Foreigner (Farang) driver and its big news!  How many intoxicated Thai crash every day?  Where are they in the news?

She's a typical crazy thai drunk lady. The cctv cameras don't lie.She must be getting well paid by the boyfriend to try and take the blame for a farang over her fellow countryman.

She's probably concerned that he will be deported.

The Thai police can be very tolerant.

With farangs they are not that tolerant...

I no longer live in Thailand, but back in the UK I never drink & drive, partly because I need to drive for work. And, never drove in Thailand.

Very interesting.

No word of driving under the influence of alcohol?
Just pay 400 to 1,000 baht?
TIT

Compensation to the Som Tam cart owner, another 200-300 baht!

This blurring is getting out of hand! Too many times I am presented with a 2 minute video that is simply completely blurred like watching life through steamed up goggles. It's a waste of time!

The driver is Singaporean, Thai news yesterday morning, also said it's her husband.

Rightly so.

It's one of the reasons Thailand remains a great place to live.

The UK should follow Thailand's example to be far less tolerant of the foreign hordes infesting our ancestral homelands.

No longer live there. Also, when living in Bangkok my taxi rides were never (very rarely) more than 2-3km. If my taxi to Lumpini Park was 68 Baht I would just hand over 100 Baht & say "keep the change".

20 hours ago, Liverpool Lou said:

Oh.  So?

So. If you get caught in Thailand you're probably going to be able to buy your way out of it, doesn't happen in the UK (AFAIK).

She is taking the blame and if the farang was at the wheel the thais are very good at saying take me to hospital. He would be paying more for everything,so  he may pay after to the girlfriend
