Featured Replies

Interesting that my "Under Consideration" period this marriage extension is two months.  Any other of you married dudes out there ever have this happen?
Just curious.

Savannakhet.

And now with eVisa only option in Laos?

Looks like right now, I will do "Extension of Stay" again -- which is a pain. I won't have much time this year for chartering new teritory, but next year I may opt for LTR/Digital Nomad. (I travel in/out very frequently.)

All good however of little help to OP.

If over 50 he could consider change to extensions based on retirement.

Many years ago I had four consecutive 'Under Consideration, come back next month'.

And this was before Khon Kaen had its own office and I had to go all the way to Nong Khai, which was not the friendliest of offices to start with.

Can't help. Haven't read about your situation.

30 days is common.

What does Lamphun immigration have to say on this situation.

What date is on the return to immigration for final stamp?

Like I said, the return date is a full two months from the date of extension. I asked but didn't get an answer.
This is no big deal other I was wondering if anyone else has had this happen too.  Or maybe BKK immigration was getting backlogged and is pushing out "under consideration" periods. That crossed my mind which is why I'm asking.

I came here on a business visa.  The paperwork for that was a PITA.
I've been doing marriage extensions since 2011.  Some people may consider it a hassle but I pretty much have it down to an art.  A couple of hours of time the day prior to pull the paperwork together and a run to the bank the day of (ya'll do that on a retirement extension too), and I only need three months of statements, and I have no other holds on my bank funds unlike retirees. Make an appointment and Somchai's Your Uncle.  Usually in and out in an hour.  And up to now, come back in 30 days to collect my stamp.  This time around, come back in 60 days to collect the stamp.
Just wondering if anyone else had experienced this too.  That's the only question I had.

Retirement extension is same day. Why is it so different for marriage?

That is correct...last year I applied for my EOS on 20 March. My expiration of the then current EOS was 23 April..so basically I applied for my renewal 30 days before expiration.  I was instructed to return on 21 May to pick up my new EOS....which I did and the expiration of the new (and every) EOS is on the 23rd of April...

Extensions based on marriage are sent to divisional headquarters.

Retirement not so.

Ah, thanks, and a good reminder for those who could choose retirement instead of marriage.

Oh wow.....didn't know that.

No idea why, unless they are toying with the idea of visit.....which they never do, as we live so far from the IO .

There was widescale fraud in the Nong Bua Lamphu office chiefly. Indians were registering marriages with locals but the marriages were not real. They did this to obtain permission to stay. This led to the permission to approve extensions based on marriage being taken away from local Immigration offices and passed up to the regional level. It was felt local officials had betrayed the trust given to them. All this happened years ago.

Now that makes sense....and I can see why they've done that.

The only argument I have is.......... no one in their right mind is going to stay married for 18 years (me)..........just to fool the IO....5555

I applied for marriage extension last week and got under consideration until 10 March, same every year,so fairly normal yes.

Which immigration office?

A wait of 2 months would be impractical for those that travel abroad often.

I am sure it depends if they know you or have been to your home in the past.

Consideration stamp is 30 days after the expiration date of the visa extension date.

In the past I got the final stamp within a week or two after my application, without even a home visit.

Since 2021 there is always a home visit and I can only get my final stamp on the final date of the consideration stamp.

Many years ago I used to have to travel to Kap Choeng from Buriram for my extensions. The "under consideration" wait was as short as 10 - 14 days then.

One would think that long term marriages would be processed quicker. The home visits for marriage verification stopped after the first two visits for me.

I guess this must also be the reason why staff are shuffled around to different offices on a regular basis.

A classic attitude of IO. But this time Doubling the bet.. Go, live with the 60 unsuress  days, come back and I will tell you.

Last year mine took 7-8 weeks. I had flights booked to go on a holiday and it ended up costing me 6000bht to change them or book new ones . 😕
