Popular Post PomPolo Posted January 20 Popular Post Posted January 20 It's been a while since I have initiated a post but given this is a community pub and don't get to a real one that much these days thought I would. Last week I was talking with a buddy who has lived in Pattaya for a while, and we were discussing how many people profess to be or have been in the SAS who are living in or visiting Thailand. I have heard people talk about being in the SAS myself not so much these days with less bar visits than I used to. I am actually quite surprised there is anyone left in Hereford as they all seem to have migrated to Thailand. This is by no means any disrespect to retired or serving military who I respect a lot, just wondered if anyone else has seen or heard the same on their Thai travels? 1 1 11

Popular Post Utalk2mutt Posted January 20 Popular Post Posted January 20 Ex serviceman here and whilst I worked closely with them throughout my career mainly from a logistics perspective if someone claims they were SAS it is highly unlikely they ever were. These guys are the crème del la crème, highly disciplined and will not discuss their careers in any way. Lots of BS spread around by wannabes. 2 6 1 20

I met one in Nong Khai who not only had been in the SAS, but had also recently broken the village headman's arm. (he claimed) (remote vilage in Udon Thani without a metalled road). He name-dropped a couple of stories about SAS operations in the 50's(?) I would not describe him as good company but the bar owner was happy 'cos he spent a lot of money on beer. 1 1 1 4
Popular Post Mr Meeseeks Posted January 20 Popular Post Posted January 20 I have several good mates living in Pattaya who are genuinely ex-UKSF. One is ex SAS 22, one ex-SAS 23 and another former SBS. All bona fide as I have seen their credentials when attending Remembrance Sundays, etc. When I lived in Bangkok I drank with a mountain of an SBS guy and knew various others. All genuine. The bar I drank in on Soi 22 was all ex-UKSF and had the winged dagger on the wall IFYKYK. 1 3

For sure I have no doubt at all the are xUKSF retired here and huge respect for the level they have protected the UK without any of us even knowing it. Probably pees those guys of a little bit too I would imagine when some guy whacked out on a bottle of Sangsom in a bar says he was in 2 para 1
Popular Post Hummin Posted January 20 Popular Post Posted January 20 I had the pleasure of training with SAS in Northern Norway during winter rehersal, and Im quite sure non of them would brag about being former SAS in a bar in Pattaya. 4 7

Even then, they might say nothing. The genuine ex-SAS have nothing to prove to we "lesser mortals" and probably relish being able to relax rather than tell war stories all the time. I have a couple of mates on Phuket who are ex Royal Marines (one of them a former CSM) and even they don't sit and brag about it, but if it comes up in discussion quietly admit it. By the way, I have maximum respect for these guys 2 1 1 1

By the way, I have maximum respect for these guys You’re absolutely bang on with your comment. I have never met a more discipled group of people in my life. They are focused totally on how they conduct themselves both physically and mentally. They go about their business quietly and with the utmost discretion and that doesn’t leave them when they leave the military. In the case of @Mr Meeseeks he is good mates with a couple and has seen their credentials as he puts it so that’s highly believable but generally their military lives are not up for discussion. 1 1 3

Somehow i forgot to ever take action pictures,oh wait. I never served in the SAS but i was in the SNS for over 17 years.
Popular Post Smokin Joe Posted January 20 Popular Post Posted January 20 One of the guys I served with in the Cub Scouts later joined the SAS (or maybe it was Delta Seal Team). Here he is on a Hostage Rescue Raid. He's third from the right. 9

Popular Post jaideedave Posted January 20 Popular Post Posted January 20 Way back in 1992 I met one at Bodega Bar cnr of Soi PO across from the "Tina Turner" show bar. Hook, line and sinker...I got it all.555 Years later, same bar, I met an Aussie undercover detective. Said he'd like to chat but was on duty. Almost fell off my bar stool.lol What are these guys putting in their corn flakes? It must be my magnetism. 1 4

Popular Post Stocky Posted January 20 Popular Post Posted January 20 Over the years I've met a whole regiment of SAS whilst drinking in bars around the world. The only person I ever drank with who was SAS never told me, I only found out at his funeral. 6 2 2 1

Sadly there is almost no representation from the 43rd Water Bottle Cork Repair Workshop, a little known logistical unit which served gloriously. They spent lots of time in 'Nam, Cheltenham! 2 1 6
