Thai Police Deny Plans to Deport Uyghurs to China Amid Criticism

The Royal Thai Police have firmly denied claims made by human rights organisations that they intend to deport 48 Uyghur men to China. This group, escaping alleged persecution in China’s Xinjiang province since 2014, remains in Thai custody. Concerns for their safety prompted Human Rights Watch to urge Thailand against deportation.

Thailand's National Police Chief, Kittharath Punpetch, stated that there’s no standing plan to send the Uyghurs back, emphasising ongoing discussions with the National Security Council. He assured that while Thailand isn't a mediator for legal disputes, the police are open to working with international entities.

Senator Angkhana Neelapaijit has been active in the proceedings, acknowledging a petition about the Uyghurs' detainment conditions. Although prior attempts to visit them were redirected to meetings, she vows to press further. Angkhana highlighted that mishandling the issue could provoke human rights backlash.

Moreover, Rushan Abbas of the World Uyghur Congress met with Fair Party member Kannavee Suebsang, stressing against deportation due to potential diplomatic ramifications. As global scrutiny looms over human rights issues, Kannavee urged Thailand to establish a clear stance on the matter.

Unfortunately they WILL be sent back, when there are no so many eyes watching. Thailand can not afford NOT to listen to China...

BS

Not seen many posts arguing for immediate deportation.  Strange, as there are hundreds advocating this for other muslim refugees/asylum seekers. 🙄
