Just off the phone with Somdej hospital in Sriracha.

Can do an annual check up, which should included everything. No need to see doctor, just walk in and proceed to the health department.

Price is 1400 baht.

I asked the lady if Hb1ac was included, and she confirmed, but I don't see it on your list.

There is a sugar test on your list, but that could just be simple blood sugar test, so will have to double check with them when I'm there.

Make sure they understand which you want to be tested for or you will end up paying for tests you do not need. Get a price list like mine if you can, and point out which ones you want.

Yes good idea. @Sheryl maybe you can give a list of what should be included?

I don't experience any issues currently, just want to check if anything is simmering. In my opinion, PSA - Hb1ac and cholesterol would be the most important ones, and kidney, but not sure which tests are needed for the latter.

I have had my blood tested at Surin Government Hospital every 3 months for the last 2 years and have never needed a doctor's order. I get a complete profile including A1C, Lipid, Kidney function and PSA for around 1500 baht.

There is a difference from having a check up at a hospital which offers check up packages, and having a few, less common, specific tests done. The OP sounded like he wanted the latter. Now it seems he may want the former,

 

@CallumWK please clarify what you are seeking. An overall checkup or specific tests related to a known (or suspected) health problem? Note that the few, very specific tests you originally  mentioned might not a appear in a check up package and may have to be added on (forget the PHI, that isn't a test anyway but a calculation based on 3 other parameters, only 2 of which -- PSA and free PSA -- are widely available even at large hospitals. Free PSA usually only done if overall PSA is elevated).

 

If what you want is an overall check up then indicate your age, any known medical problems or significant family history. All private hospitals, and most larger government hospitals, offer check up packages of one sort or another.

My local (community?) hospital has a very proactive top doctor whose english is faultless. I suspect he is responsible for this elderly patient monitoring system.

There is another plus in that every year my doctor signs my life certificate for me to let the DWP in the UK know i'm still alive.

 

Incidentally. 

The annual blood/urine test is a fully comprehensive thing which will check if your internals are functioning within acceptable parameters. Altogether there are 56 tests listed.

Many thanks for all your help. I agree entirely. Good tip about the DWP Life Certificate too!  I asked my Thai neice (aged 30) who has just told me that the age to qualify for this list is 60. That would appear to make this a National scheme. I've received A/E treatment at both my nearby Government Community Hospital and my Government Regional Hospital thus I must be registered at both. I'm surprised that my Thai wife hasn't informed me about this as I was 61 when I moved to Thailand. However, she's taken out Life Insurance on me instead!

I use the government hospital at Bang Saen and see the doctor every 4 months. Each time there is a blood test but the list varies each time, urine/PSA I think once a year. You have to be registered and results take about hour and a half.

The Cancer Hospital at Chonburi also do a package, was 1600 baht each time I have been, but a couple of years now. It was 1300 for a woman which would make the PSA about 300 baht.

It is bloods, stool and urine analysis with ECG and X-ray. Unfortunately not walk in, need to register and make an appointment, last time I had to wait about a month.

I have no medical issues, haven't seen a doctor in the last 20 years at least, and neither has my family a medical history.

My dad died at the age of 95, and the only medicine he took was something for cholesterol and a blood thinner, I think. He died from Thyroid cancer.

My mother died at 92, and the last few years she had kidney issues. She died from a brain infarct.

My age is 66 and I had the basic blood test 1 month ago at the Lifecare lab which it didn't detect anything abnormal. The main reason for that test was blood sugar.

I sent the result to my doctor in Belgium, and he confirmed nothing abnormal, other than a slightly elevated cholesterol, but advised that I should get a more complete test, which includes cholesterol - kidney - liver - prostate - thyroid and sugar.

The lady at the hospital confirmed that PSA and Hb1Ac is included in the test. So which other items should I include?

I get regular check-ups at my local government hospital, as i have CKD (chronic kidney disease). My first visit i just picked a couple of tests i wanted, no problem, but they insisted i see a doctor to discuss the results. Typically a doctors consultation was 200 baht. Now it is all pre-arranged appointments (but can usually get one on the day, if the right doctor is seeing patients).

 

1. Tests first,

2. when results are available get a spot in the queue,

3. see doctor, wait for prescription,

4. go order medicine, wait and pick up.

 

Most Public hospitals have someone with some English to get you to the right place if you are not sure where to go. Typically a visit at public hospital would take half a day (best if you do tests day before, that saves time waiting for results). Typical bill for everything (a couple of tests, consultation and meds) would be about 1000-2000 baht. Obviously depends on the tests and the meds; in my experience basic meds are a lot cheaper than a pharmacy.

Should be, for sure. 

 

That list is probably from a lower level hospital. 

 

But the list of tests thst can be done in a hospital is not the same thing as their checkup package and remains to be sern how readily you can add on to that.

As Cheryl suggested I go to an independent lab and pay. It's not expensive unless you want the more unusual tests. The results are same-day. The result sheet also supplies the healthy range for each test.

Went to the hospital asking for clarification about the tests.

 

They can do all the tests but for TSH test have to consult doctor first.

 

I'm also confused about the HbA1c test, which they say can be included, but on there info it shows as EDTA, which seems to be a kidney test.

EDTA and other info in parentheses just describes the type of tube the specimen is collected in.  EDTA is a preservative. Not a test type. 

 

Most places would add the TSH without requiring Dr consultation.
