Well this is a news report I would not call trivial, nor persuade me the City is relatively crime free.

A small  bag of cannabis and a gun, lock him up for life!

The apprehended suspect, a 19-year-old identified only as "Wave," was found in possession of a small packet of cannabis. He claimed the meeting was meant to be a peaceful discussion with a former friend, "Ice," who had distanced himself from their group. Wave insisted that he had no prior knowledge of Nick carrying a gun and was unaware that the situation would escalate into violence.

None of these so-called meetings end up with a happy ending...

Not downplaying the severity of the incident but again it seems like another Targeted event.  Not some random tourist being attacked.

My thinking too, and I don't care if rival groups of youths aka gangs kick the sh*t out of each other, but where guns are involved, the likelihood of stray bullets is worrying.

And 3AM in Pattaya still sees late-night revellers out having legal fun - they (sorry, we) shouldn't go in fear of being shot!

Why, I could stay in London for that! 🙄

It's like when I lived in Detroit and almost nightly heard gangland gunshots going off in the hood. As long as it's just a bunch of "Caesars" fighting other Caesars and no collateral damage, no one really really gave a sht.

I dont normally take my family out at 3 in the morning.

A family friendly resort is not one where you cannot walk the streets at 3am due to possible violent incidents, even if one wouldn't take their family out at that time.

If someone was staying with their family nearby, and were awoken by the sound of fighting and gunshots, would you explain to them, "Don't worry, it's outside and you don't take your family outside at 3am, this is a family friendly resort!"?

in fact, I think that, secretly, some members of law enforcement might be pleased that some of their problems have gone away.

Saves a lot of paperwork....

So there are no family friendly resorts in Thailand then.  It's everywhere, even village fairs attract a punch up and some nut with a gun, some posters on here live sheltered lives...

That area late is a cesspool of negative activity. Nothing good is going on there after midnight.   They should close the beach and surrounding area at 1 am and send all those drunk kids, druggies, pot heads and LB away.

None in Vegas too then......

No, reality is, depends where exactly one ventures, with the family. Ironically, for Pattaya, it is not near the police station!

Apart from Central, there really is nothing down there to see

If people are shooting each other on the streets, it isn't a family friendly place. I'm not sure how you don't understand that.

And yes, Pattaya being "family friendly" is obviously a bogus claim. The night time economy and the lack of safety make that fairly obvious. Someone was just mowed down crossing the road the other day.

People do take their families there, sure, but they no doubt know the risks and plan accordingly.

God knows what you are going on about, I seem to understand quite clearly as under your parameters nowhere is family friendly in Thailand.

Is Bangkok family friendly with bombs going off, active shooter in Paragon?

How about the tourist hotspots of Hua Hin, Patong, Surat Thani, Trang, Phang Na which all suffered from terrorism in the past?

I think the chances of surviving a night out in Pattaya are higher that surviving the journey home on the roads!

Nowhere is completely safe these days, not just Pattaya.
