Just incase any of you missed this ib the News......

Kasikornbank has announced that mobile banking customers need to ensure their registered name matches their mobile SIM card name by April 30. The bank outlined two conditions for this requirement. Customers who have not been contacted need not take any action.

Kasikornbank communicated through its Facebook page, KBank Live, regarding a measure to enhance mobile banking security. This initiative requires the user name to match the mobile SIM card holder’s name. Customers utilising K PLUS, LINE BK, or MAKE by KBank and meeting the criteria will receive instructions through these platforms starting from February 17.

All banks have been ordered (by the government or BoT or someone) to verify SIM as part of money laundering reduction.  It was in the news a few days ago.

Probably a big pile of nothing for regular users whose phone ID and banking ID will already match.

Unless the staff member at the telco shop rearranged your fist, middle, and last name, so they don't match.

Oh well, another trip to the telco shop to check it out, and then another trip back to the telco shop 2 days later to confirm the information the staff from 2 days before gave you was accurate.  TiT.

No problem here. Your sim card is most likley registered to you. If not register with your provider.

This is a crackdown on call centre scams using hundreds of  mule sim cards.

A welcome move.

My sim card is in my wifes name.  No problems using SCB so far.

The problem my wife has is with the KTB app.  It will not run with our Bitdefender malware program on the phone.  It pops up a message saying you need to uninstall it to use their banking app.  The SCB app does not have that problem.

Yes I do and when you use K Plus on the 17th February and after you will get a message, if required, to follow the process.

You will only get the message if your details don't match.

If your SIM and bank name details are the same you shouldn't have to do anything.

And added the word MISTER.

Had a problem with satangpro because of this ridiculous thing. Satangpro is now Orbix after kasikorn bought it.

Do you actually have to uninstall it - or can you just force stop it temporarily?

I would change it! Can be a problem in the future!

Take your wife with you to the sim carrier shop and transfer the sim in your name if you want to keep the same number.

Had a similar problem with the BBL app a couple of years ago using Avast antivirus. Needed to deselect an option in Avast to get the bank app to work.

My wife's number is registered under my name. She got a notice a couple of weeks ago she has to verify her identity with the bank. Did it on an ATM machine in a couple of minutes.

Last year I went to a AIS Shop in our Town! After telling my phone number they made a photo of my passport with a tablet and in less than 1 minute everything was done. Now my SIM is in my name!

You did this alone or was the person with you whose name was registered to the sim?

you will have to register the sim in your name to continue internetbanking.  Name of account and sim are required to match. Easy fix should have been done already.

Should be fun, SIM in Mrs name, the bank uses christian name and surname for savings accounts, christian name and middle name for credit card.

Thanks for that tip.  I'll be sure to check that out as well.

Because most Thais, including folks who work in banks don't know how the typical western name is constructed.

I've been in LOS over 35 years (28 years as a Thai PR) , several times I've realised the Thai staff are lost about my name. I explain it like this:

- Open my passport details page

- Point to first name on your passport (christian name) and say 'chua tee nueng ' (first name, which is the dominant name for Thai folks).

- Now point to middle name on your passport and say 'chua tee sorng ' (second name). and say 'Thai people don't have a second name, ignore this'.

As just said 99.9% of Thai people don't have a second name. They

can make an application to have a second name but it's not normal

and difficult to get it approved. I've seen it once, it was achieved by

adjusting the Thai family to add the new middle name in front of the

family name with a dash,, Family name had become vvvvvvvvv-oldfamilyname.

The Thai gov't name databases have no provision for second name.

- Then point at your family name in your passport and say 'namsakhun' (family name).

- 9 times out of 10 this gives the Thai person a clear understanding.

That will be interesting!

My Thai SIM card is registered in my name (and has been for a very long time), or should be, but you just never know how exactly they conducted the name matching, especially with foreign names.

There also seems to be no way for me to check my actual name registered with AIS in their app, unless I'm missing something. I just remember that they took a picture of my passport.

My HSBC UK banking app refused to work with the keyboard I had installed.  I had to install the Google keyboard again.

I'm going to the shop, twice, to make sure.

She was with me (just in case), but they didn't check anything (name or ID) from her!
