After returning from LOS, I posted a few times about my living in OZ. So I must tell you LOS is not cheap. Have to tell you guys again that I have to rent a unit It is cheaper than you guys made it to be.   I paid 240 AUD per week for a 2 bedroom for 8 years and that includes water. I have not paid for electricity since COVID-19 struck many years ago. How much do you guys Pay per week to live in LOS?

Are you in subsidised housing or rent control ?

Also how are you able to not pay for electricity. Who is footing the bill as its not free.

I am on a part pension from Australia. I have investment assets as well, which generate income.

In Australia, living costs are so high my capital in those investments erodes. In Thailand, my capital increases. I am making money in retirement.

In old age, I would have to settle for eating dog food in Oz. Aged care there is a licence to print money for Singapore based corporations.

Here, I live well, and have a GF 23 years younger than me, who will take care of me until I draw my last breath.

It's a no-brainer.

Don't know about the dog food, though some does smell pretty good, even tasted some, and just OK.

Agree though, and I live in TH, as I prefer to continue my LPOS (Lazy Piece of Sh!t) comfy existence, without the need to work or generate income, from any source.

Even being a lazy slum lord, or from the 'markets' and that is more effort than I'm willing to invest.  Now that's lazy, as way too easy, and don't even need to leave the house to generate income :cheesy:

70k for a family with 2 kids. Probably translate into 30k for a single guy in Pattaya. For and 80-100 sqm apartment, a decent car, western food, wine, 6 weeks holidays and good healthcare that's what you'll pay.

Living in the west or other countries is not cheap.
I live now about 4 months in Spain and can compare the prices of living in Europe and living in Thailand.
But in the long term, Spain is cheaper than Thailand for me.
I walk every month into the hospital, visit a few specialists and get my medication FREE OF CHARGE.
I go many times drink a glas of wine and get a Tapa of my choice free.
Total price for a glass of wine and a Tapa (food) is 3.5 EUR.
I stap on the bus and can go anywhere FREE OF CHARGE.
So, living in the West can be cheaper as Thailand.
And best of all, NO HASSLE WITH VISAS OR 90-DAYS REPORTS.

Times are changing fast and Thailand is not the country it was when I came living there.
In a few years time, Thailand will become a very expensive country for most expats.

How about kitten? Any young'uns that know how to take care of geezers?

Nothing.

I built a house here 25 years ago.

No rent. No mortgage.

That's pretty cheap.

It cost me a LOT more than that to live in Oz, Singapore, Hong Kong and the UK.

there's many reasons people move to thailand or abroad in general.

one of them being to get out of your comfort zone / boredom / monotony. it's not just about costs.

The OP brings this topic up about every 3 months.

I don't what he's trying to achieve.

He has mentioned previously that he lost his life savings when he was living in Thailand.

Maybe that's his issue.

But all he bangs on about is how low his rent is and how it hasn't increased in years.

It's as if he's trying to justify living in Oz.

Nearly forgot to mention, according to him he owns several properties and also won the lottery last year.

Make of that what you will.

Who pays the power bill? He must be bludging off somebody else.

4. People who don't like the cold, wet, windy weather in their home countries and like to cycle in the sun everyday.

This needs to be bolded. Im in the process of house hunting in the USA and in Europe and while in Europe, I can be assured of warmth and sun, finding a place in the USA is absolutely brutal in terms of weather, distances, taxes, etc. Even in places like Northern Missisippi or Georgia you are going to be shivering this time of year. And where the climate is the best (say San Diego) the politics are the worst.

Ill probably end up May to Sept in the US then split the rest of the year between Cambodia, Thailand and Europe.

Dog food is more expensive. Go buy a dog and see how cheap it is.
