You, like so many, are forgetting all the public infrastructure that you benefit from every day which is paid for by taxes.

Oh yeah! Dude! That one is really advanced. At the same time I get lunatic in different vehicles that tries to play bowling with all from tourists to their own citizens. The infrastructure regarding computerized society is also crazy good. data breaches is like an everyday lunch here. Not to talk about the public restroom situation in overpopulated tourist areas. Should I go on dude, or had enough already?

It's not anti tax, i pay tax in UK i just don't want to pay more here for nothing

well supposedly (operative word here) the DTA between the UK and Thailand should mean you do not pay anything extra here...I would think that any tax that could be charged  to Thailand would be less than that in the UK and then a tax credit ..but I am no tax expert for sure, just on my own anyway.  Good luck to you as I think the Thais will try to keep expats here as opposed to scaring them out.

So the sticker price does not include VAT ?

Of course the customer pays the VAT. The store owner hands over the cheque to the government, but all his goods are marked up to cover the cost to him. If there was no VAT the goods you buy would be 10% cheaper. You also pay vat on utilities ie electricity, water etc.

So if I return to my citizenship country one day I don't get hit with a tax audit for 20 years of unpaid taxes.

Everyones situation is different.

Personally I would prefer to be able to pay some tax here just to avoid having the above issue in the future.

Yeah thats my take on it too... not sure why patman30 is claiming otherwise.

VAT in Thailand is 10% ?

Not necessarily, personal allowances aren't the same UK vs Thailand, plus based on some posts the tax experts here don't understand DTR

my wife is happy to know if i do ever have any assessable  income,
that we will be going on a lot of holidays in one year, every few years and just bring it all in that year
or the other option is i transfer funds as a gift for the wife to buy herself a nice gold necklace
up to 20m THB in gold jewellery each year iirc
all the fearmongering about this change, only comes from those who currently live month to month who have likely involuntarily paid tax already
seriously its a nothing burger for most expats

Unfortunately most of us have not got huge income and have wonderful Thai families to support!!!

I see paying taxes as a responsibility to help everyone. If you do not pay anywhere, you are a cheat and a criminal.

You mean like corporations which relocate to avoid paying taxes?

That definitely does not include me.

Let's get this straight after sorting out my debit card problem I went along this morning to my local Revenue Office in Kanchanaburi  and they recognised me and stated yet again my personal  allowances are higher than my income and no you do not to file!!!
Same as before and several times!!!

so on my receipt.... where it says VAT 7%... and there is a total next to it.

Iam not actually paying that 7% ?

you pay the merchant the price the merchant demands
what the merchant says it is for is irrelevant
VAT is currently NOT paid at point of sale.
many receipts also say you got a "discount" too when paying "the price"

i have not had ANY income since 2018, and i too have a family to support
some of us make moves, others just plod along
we are now in a position where we can spend very little
we produce our own food, and have off grid solar and well for water
only possible as i plan ahead based on global events
even when living in patts, 30k/month was more than enough and 25% of that went on electric

No need to pay tax in Thailand if your country has a double taxation agreement with Thailand.

Unless, of course, you are working here with a regular work permit.

supposedly, part of the OECD agreement is about corporation tax of 15% which they want the signers to achieve so those 136 signers of that agreement should be staying put unless they can find a suitable home somewhere.

What Tax?

As long as the Thai government is not even able to provide the necessary documents in a language other than Thai, why should I pay taxes? If someone wants something like that from me, they should do something about it. The government still owes potential taxpayers binding information, which includes at least English paperwork!

Do you mean UK or US should provide documentation in Arabic (several different languages according to countries), Hindi, french, Spanish and each language spoken all over the world ?

One thing nobody speaks about and would be interesting.. Who plans to leave or has left due to this world income taxation planned for the coming years (tax on imported money is very low.. on world income will be very different)

What facilities ? We already pay tolls to use main roads, we pay for medical treatment, and for electricity and auto fuel, and for food. Street maintenance and lighting perhaps ?  Your thoughts would be appreciated.

The non-toll roads, the hospitals, the utility infrastructure and then there is the general community wellbeing, like schools, disaster relief etc.

Everyone pays taxes in Thailand you idiot. It's called VAT

Personal attacks are not necessary.

If VAT covered all the bills, you might be right, but obviously they don't.

While one has to agree with that "theory", could you share your intransigeant views on the the Thai people in high places who are going to confiscate, for their own "well being " at least half of the tax you are going to pay.

Eradicate corruption, all redundant civil servants, and I'll pay happily.

What about the corruption of greed by you?
