Electric Toothbrush in Carryon Luggage?

Featured Replies

Hi, I'm flying to BKK to Hong Kong next month with carry on baggage only. I want to take my electric toothbrush but I've heard they can be confiscated due to the pointed tong that holds the brush.

Anyone with any info? I could contact the airline but it's not them that decides, it's security.

Thanks

I always put in carry on luggage as most electric toothbrushes  contains lithium-ion batteries

I always use the plastic storage case that came with the toothbrush space for toothbrush and 2 spare heads

It might attract security attention if it was in luggage without storage case

I used to carry a sharp dental pick through multiple countries but it got confiscated by Hong Kong security.  But I've probably crossed through HK at least 40 times with an electric toothbrush in carry on and they've never said a word.

I did it 2 months ago without any problems.

However I don't know how it is tomorrow?😳

Hong Kong has carry-on rules much more strict than most airports.   Even in-transit, the take away short nail files and such.

I travel around the world with mine I've never been stopped or searched or asked even about it but a stupid question.

If you do get stopped tell us what airport and where and what country I'd be curious.

Been through many airports with it in the carry on, never a problem.

I always take mine in carry on and in the plastic cover which also holds spare brushes.  As it is rechargeable there could be issues in checked luggage.  I have not travelled through HK but never an issue in the countries through which I have travelled.

Let's save the planet.

Go manual you know old style.

What the absolute <deleted>.

Do people even know how to make fire these days?

Electric toothbrushes are permitted but duct tape is not

No issues with electric toothbrushes in hand carry through HKG or anywhere else for that matter.

But last week at security and MAN, the chap refused to allow my stuff to go through the machhine, or me through the body scanner, until I removed the skinny Vietnamese bamboo toothpick from my mouth and put it in the bin. He said it looked (or made me look) suspicious.

who uses a toothpick while going through a body scanner?

Obviously not the jobsworth at MAN security. How about you?

This was BEFORE the body scanner FFS. If it was a cyanide-laced, titanium shiv disguised as a skinny Vietnamese bamboo toothpick, I'm sure the scanner would have gotten me good.

Sheesh...

I passed BKK security with my electric toothbrush without any problems. Leaving Hong Kong for Manila at the end of the month will update how I get on.

Cheers
