Sometime in 1990s, in S/Korea, huge department store collapsed, and it killed over 500

Collapse was caused by greed . From memory they added a other floor and weaken piles the supported the slaps. There's a NG documentary "24 hours to disaster" i believe it called

That thing is still there? I haven't lived in Pattaya in 2 decades, and it was there then. Unbelievable!

Construction was only started on it in 2011 so it was not there 2 decades ago.

When I read stories like this about zillion dollar projects (with lawyers and sophisticated developers) being built on land that's later deemed out of bounds, I wonder what chance a normal foreigner has of knowing what he's really bought, and whether he'll be able to keep it.

Or even a Thai everyman...

Buildings can be erected close to the beach if maintained and are of  appropriate high quality construction. They are all over the USA Japan, Singapore and EU.

And then there was the condo in Surfside, Florida in the Miami  area, on the beach. It wasn't properly maintained and it collapsed  killing 98 people.

And here is an explanation of why it fell. The rebar was rusting, and the subsequent spalling of the concrete caused it to collapse.

Stephen Petty has an excellent book on engineering called "Forensic Engineering, Damage Assessments for Residential of Commercial Structures". 791 page book. He is an Expert Witness for the courts.. His channel is very informative based on science. https://www.youtube.com/@pettypodcasts6968/videos?view=0&sort=dd&shelf_id=2

Just get George Bush over with a few pounds of thermite. It will be down in 10 seconds in it's own footprint.

Do you know what thermite is? It’s not an explosive. A few pounds would do little more than make a hole. It is not used in demolition. Read up:

“Thermite reactions have many uses. It is not an explosive; instead, it operates by exposing a very small area to extremely high temperatures. Intense heat focused on a small spot can be used to cut through metal or weld metal components together both by melting metal from the components, and by injecting molten metal from the thermite reaction itself. [citation needed]

Thermite may be used for repair by the welding in-place of thick steel sections such as locomotive axle-frames where the repair can take place without removing the part from its installed location.

Thermite can be used for quickly cutting or welding steel such as rail tracks, without requiring complex or heavy equipment.”

There is a suggestion that thermite was placed in strategic places  under cover of a major lift maintenance...it certainly was strange how the 2 towers came straight down landing fully in their own footprint....and then there is also building 7 !  the whole "accepted narrative" is highly suspicious IMHO.

As for Waterfront  I believe it is not a steel framed building so thermite would not work, they would have to blow up the supporting columns at ground level in a controlled pattern to bring it down  straight into its own footprint without toppling over   good news is even if the make a balls up there is not much surrounding it to fall on  to   😱

nobody noticed until it was 40 story’s high ?

They noticed when it started blocking the view from the government/military installation and temple on the hill behind it.727323803_waterfrontfromviewpoint.thumb.jpg.8ee0dad89e7d363b3d42cf4aed470aef.jpg

I have suggested in the past that they clad the entire back side in lcd panels

and project from a high definition camera aview of the sea front  back to the hill so as to render the monstrosity "invisible"

The mentally ill are out in full force with their false claims that former President Bush blew up the WTC,

If the people making these lies were held accountable they wouldn't  be so quick to spread false information.

Who cares..this is about the Waterfront in Pattaya..not WTC/USA...get back on track.

A real demolition crew could bring this building with minimal damage to the surrounding

structures. I bet less than a dozen of them would get crushed along with this wreck of a building.

Because of those damn thermites I had to replace my entire wood flooring with an expensive tile job.

I care because it is blood libel. Accusing a man of murder based on delusions is not free speech.

A couple of questions then a solution.

1.  Can the land mandate be further pushed to the higher courts if either side loses.

2.  Because this as been sitting there in a sea side (salt air) area so long would it still be sturcturally sound?

Solution

Why not bring in one of those companies that blow up high buildings? Surely if companies can do a controlled knockdown on the Vegas strip, there are companies that could do the same here. It is not as if there is a lot of buildings or such that would be harmed.

just bring in a dozen or so migrant workers with sledge hammers,  some rope and a bucket ...

they could probably knock off a floor a day

Construction started in 2011 and was halted in 2014.   I personally think it is one of the few buildings in Pattaya sporting any interesting architecture and I'd like to see it finished--with perhaps some floors removed to pacify the original protestors--rather than torn down.

Not sure if that is viable. I think it is an ugly monstrosity that spoils the area and should never have been approved.
