Three 14-year-old boys riding a motorcycle without helmets were killed in a head-on collision with a car while on their way to celebrate the end of their school exams by swimming at a nearby riverbank.

The fatal crash occurred on the In Buri–Sapphaya Road, close to Wat Sakae in Phonang Dam Tok, Sapphaya District, Chai Nat. Police and emergency services rushed to the scene following the report.

At the crash site, officers found the lifeless body of Atthawat, aged 14, who suffered multiple fractures and severe injuries. Two other boys, Dusit and Phumet, also aged 14, were taken to Sapphaya Hospital and Chainat Narenthorn Hospital but later succumbed to their injuries. The bodies have been sent to Sawanpracharak Hospital’s forensic institute for post-mortem examinations before being returned to their families for religious rites.

Their motorcycle, a Honda Wave with registration number from Lopburi, was discovered in a nearby canal, severely damaged. The other vehicle involved was a silver Honda Civic, registration number from Chiang Mai, which sustained damage, including a broken front bumper, shattered windscreen, and a dented roof. The two occupants of the car, who suffered head injuries and abrasions, were taken to Sapphaya Hospital for treatment and are in stable condition.

According to police investigations, the three boys were from a  school in In Buri, Sing Buri. After finishing their final exams, they decided to ride to Wat Sakae’s sandy riverbank to celebrate. They were reportedly turning at speed, into the temple’s entrance when they collided head-on with the car, propelling both the bike and the boys over the roadside guardrail.

Authorities are continuing their investigation into the collision.

14 year olds are not allowed to drive a motorcycle, wearing no helmets and no drivers license.... Many more to follow this week as nobody cares... teachers, parents, RTP... Sadly loss of young lives but if nobody does anything more are following...

Most importantly no insurance, null and void,

Insurance would have done nothing to save their lives. Such a sad story and heartbreaking for the community. RIP.

Again I will say, it's the parents not caring

yes Joe,  I agree 100% .....      they are not really parents,  because proper parents would put not let this happen.   And police don't do their job.

No use... in my neighbourhood, the brother of a friend friend from my stepson, died because he was racing without an helmet, 17 yrs old. The whole family in deep grieve but a few weeks later we saw him 15 years speeding in the middle of the road with no helmet... What did he learn from the dead of his brother???And my stepson proudly told us they went to Cha Am on the motorcycle speeding 12okm ove rthe highway.. That was fun... Now I know that stupidity can't be cured

More victims of Pattaya police's laissez-faire policy on the roads.

Everyone blames the police but if the country takes the ever increasing tourists in without increasing the police resources they are just at the sharp end .

Nothing whatsoever to do with Pattaya...This accident was in Chai Nat.

The police can put a cop every ten metres when a VIP comes to town.  When it comes to enforcing helmet use; red light observance; speeding; they are invisible.

Irrelevant.

Why did the parents allow them to ride the scooter ?

Thats an impressive amount of damage.. in this instance I reckon the no helmet matters zero... those lads were brown bread either way.

You can break every bone in your body and still live, but hitting your head even at moderate speeds will kill. Most of these deaths daily can be avoided by wearing a helmet. We see motorcycle riders falling off bikes at extreme speeds but walking away because they have a good helmet on. You hit a car head on not wearing a helmet and your head hits, you're a statistic.

Except that it's probably not heartbreaking for the community.  For them It's karma and now the boys are now in their next life.

One of my Thai nieces (when younger), used to show me photos of her best friend with her head splattered all over the road after headbutting a concrete post.  Not a tinge of sadness as she explained how they had to pick bits of brain out of the grass verge..... she's gone onto her next life - that's all.
