So I went to Thailand for 2 weeks back in February. I spent 4 nights in Phuket and met this beautiful bar girl on my 2nd night there at a bar. We talked, played pool and I bought her a lady drink. As I was leaving she gave me her WhatsApp so we can keep in touch whilst I was in Phuket. She messaged me the next day asking how my trip was to James Bond Island and if I was coming back to that bar. I went back and we again talked, played pool and I bought her a lady drink. She wanted to pay the bar fine and take her back. But I was too tired and had to go on a trip the next day. We left it at that and next day she again messages me. I went back to the bar that night and repeated what we did the previous 2 nights. Only this time I wanted to take her back and she asked me to wait as they were short staffed that evening. I waited, paid the bar fine and took her back. Next day comes around and she messages me again to tell her when I landed in Bangkok as I was leaving Phuket that day. I assumed she’d stop contact but she messaged me throughout my last day in Thailand, and asked me to message her when I arrived home in the Uk. We added each other on TikTok and facebook. And for the last 5 weeks we have been messaging back and forth asking how are day has been etc. Told her about my trip back to Thailand to visit my dad in Udon Thani which is where her family is from in the coming November. Last night she messaged me telling me her mother was in hospital and she’s having to pay 450 baht a day for medical fees. She then asked if I can send over 8000 baht which I can’t even afford and would never send money over to someone I barely know. She seemed ok with me telling her no but I’m now wondering if she’s trying to scam me or something after out of the blue asking me to help her with medical bills. Should I now stop contacting her as I see this as a red flag. We’re not in a relationship, she’s never asked for money before. Just two people still messaging each other from time to time. What should I do apart from not send any money over.

555 ah, Grasshopper, she wants to set the hook ...

So, she is ok with "no" - - but you think it is a scam? What makes you think that there is anything attractive to her more than your money in the first place?

It’s the norm here in Thailand I’m sure her mum would have the 30 baht hospital card so she shouldn’t be paying anything just be honest with her and say have no money she will come back and say no money no money when that happens delete her from all your social media job done

Wow... how does a bargirl look like 20 years later.....

Like any other women would, except Asians look younger, and it makes me wonder why you ask, are you thinking of marrying a bargirl ?

If you are, let me know as there are many benefits to it Vs marrying a western woman, i.e. if your the marrying type....LoL

If you build her a house it may work.

And if you're lucky to get a woman of good character, it may work.

A lot of "ifs".

Wow, that's a lot of "ifs", like I said, you have to set boundaries.

My plan was to always leave my home country because it was going to and still is going to sh-t.

The woman, as you say has to have good character, morals, ethics etc, the thing is most Thai women don't have a clue about farangs, and when mine came back with me for a decade, she saw how hard I worked and how expensive things were, so she appreciated that I had a plan in place to retire elsewhere, and it was good for her that it was Thailand, as I had been here once before and liked it, and it was close to my home country if I needed to return to visit family etc.

I have always said on this forum, only invest as much as your prepared to lose, which is typically 10% of ones worth, the other 90% stays in the home country where you pay no tax for investing there as a non resident, won't go into the gist of it as most here live on their government pensions and have either piss-d up what they had, i.e. if they had it, or put too much of an investment into their Tiruks, or the "B" back home got most of it from the divorce because she had the kids to look after.

Relationships can works, regardless if its a bargirl or other, for me personally, I don't judge people for the type of work they did, or had to do, as long as they are a good person, that said, I also know people can turn, and laws can be on their side, so there is a lot to research and plan, and if it all works to your advantage, then you roll the dice, well that's what I did and it's worked for me, maybe not for others, but not all women are the same, are they, and not all blokes think with their heads, do they.

It all depends, if her mum was really sick and went to the hospital, it's basically free, however, hospitals have long ques if she is from the north, north-east of Thailand, the poorer side, some go to the clinic which costs, and ques are less.

450 baht is cheap and could go towards meds.

What I don't understand is why she asked you for 8,000 baht ?

Thai's are always borrowing, they see it different to how we farangs see it, e.g. a friend in need is a pain in the A$$, Thai help each other out and always borrow if the loaner is in a better position than the one asking, they mostly never get it back, it's part of the culture.

Send like a beginning of a genuine relationship. You met a girl a couple of times over a (lady's) drink, after the 3rd date you paid a bar fine and she came to your hotel (you didn't mention it it was over night or just short time - and there's a big difference between the 2), then you transitioned to long distance relationship and now you consider taking care of your sick future mother in law. That's nice. You should stay in this relationship as it seems she really like you so much that she disclosed to you her mother's medical condition and now it is up to you to show her how serious you are about her. You should offer her to move her mum to a better private hospital, maybe the big one in Bangkok so she can see how much you love her.

Another option is that you send her the 8k and tell her that's an advance payment for your future dates...

Send her direct payments each month of 100,000 baht. Set it up as a direct debit.

Also, buy her whatever she asks for, handbags, jewelry, buffalo, pay her grandmothers hospital bills etc..

This is how it works in Thailand and this is what a man must do in order to survive here.

honest.......

Yes, there are the odd diamonds and exceptions. It's certainly nice to hear these true positive accounts and of course very happy you found a good woman. But if you had not had the funds to buy her a house, retire in Thailand, how long do you think this woman would have stayed with you? Clearly she is of good character, from what you have said, but don't you think your resources and willingness to buy her a house contributed to her happiness, and thus to her staying with you?

There is absolutely nothing wrong with whatever amount of money she asks for.
