A viral video showing two Thai police officers restraining a foreign man who allegedly attacked a woman in Phuket has sparked mixed reactions on social media. cops can get rough anywhere in the world, but it's often necessary and justified when dealing with dangerous people.

I thought the initial take-down was well executed. Beating the guy while he was already under control was a bit OTT, but not unexpected when tempers are high.

 

The final kick by the lovely lady in yellow was a pathetic attempt.

 

Overall 8/10 for entertainment value IMO.

In Thailand it is common to use violence.... at home parents/brothers/sisters/grandparents/ everybody is beating everybody for nothing. In schools kids are being beaten with sticks and rulers for minor offences, and the RTP use a lot of violence too same as in the army and everybody know that... So when violence is normal in Thailand how can you expect that there would be other solutions to solve a conflicts.. Beat it is the first reaction... ( another example is the article of the elderly couple in Hua Hin about a land dispute) And I just read that in prison beating is normal too...

The video should be shown to all the low lifes coming here. Sometimes street justice is well deserved. A lot of the cops here look like wimps in confrontations. Not here, good job RTP.

In watching the video, there was some excessive force in the beginning by what I would call "western standards".  Not sure if that is considered excessive force under Thai Law for police officers in Thailand.  Of course, there is a lot leading up to the incident that was not on video.

Agreed..    Baton to the back (or back of legs), a few punches to the head...   The Western Media would have a field day with these images....

 

... However, the guy was resisting - the police successfully restrained him and and also resisted further attacks - So perhaps the forced used was 'just about right' to subdue the violent idiot. 

 

They could also have simply tazered him (which IMO might have been a safer option for the BiB).

 

I'm glad to see there wasn't the usual pile on by bouncers, knocking someone out.

 

All in all a see a good job by the Police here, nothing to excessive and successful controlling the situation.

Brilliant from the cops.

 

Ask yourself would these tourists behave this way in Dubai or Singapore? So why do they feel embolded to do it Thailand?

 

Thailand needs direction to stop messing around with a soft approach (oh won't someone think of the negative tourism headlines) for misbehaving tourists who spoil it for those who have spent hard earned money to enjoy themselves responsibly. 

 

Too often, especially under the current adminstration there has been a tendancy to back away from any disturbance for fear of headlines. No wonder Thailand has descended into a horrific mess, with social media awash with tourists behaving appalling.

Americans name their state instead of country when asked where from. As if the whole world knows that Indiana is a state instead of a country with -na added to it. Plain ignorance.

There is a very good chance that when they use a taser they have to pay for their own refill cartridge.

Probably not cheap here,a well deserved smack with a baton is much better i think.
