DepEd Responds to Viral Bullying Incident at Quezon City School
File photo for reference only A troubling video depicting a student being bullied by classmates at Bagong Silangan High School in Quezon City has gained attention online, prompting the Department of Education (DepEd) to take immediate action. The incident, which has sparked public outrage, is being "actively addressed" by the DepEd to ensure proper measures are taken. In a statement on April 4, Dennis Legaspi of the Office of DepEd Secretary Sonny Angara reassured the public that the department is committed to handling the situation swiftly and providing necessary support to all involved students. He stated, "We have instructed the school to expedite the investigation and offer support to the affected learners." A meeting is set with the school's Child Protection Committee to carry out a comprehensive investigation, ensuring that all parties have a chance to be heard. As the investigation continues, DepEd has reiterated its commitment to student safety and the reinforcement of anti-bullying protocols to create a secure learning environment. Legaspi highlighted that the Learner Rights and Protection Division (LRPD) is offering technical support to the school, aiming to implement preventive measures and appropriate responses to bullying incidents. Additionally, an assessment of the school's compliance with current anti-bullying policies is underway, with plans for further staff training as needed. DepEd’s ongoing commitment involves a united approach to tackling bullying. Legaspi emphasized the importance of collaboration among learners, teachers, parents, and school leaders to foster a safe and supportive school atmosphere for everyone. As the investigation unfolds, DepEd remains steadfast in its mission to protect students' well-being and ensure a nurturing educational environment, reported Manila Bulletin. -- 2025-04-04 -
