I have read there are 15000 foreigners(from 103 countries)  are behind bars in this kingdom.

And their numbers are 4-5% of the Thai prison population.

While Thai population is 70 millions or so, inmates numbers here, are the 6th largest in the world.

I would have given this a WOW emoji but it's unavailable on this forum.  Many years ago I knew someone in an official capacity,  who went to the Phuket Immigration "jail" to check on Americans.  They said there were A LOT of Americans in that detention center.   Also, a neighbor told me about the same time that the American Embassy sent a representative to Phuket every month to the Phuket jail to check on American prisoners.    that's just Americans, and that was a long time ago, not sure if the embassy does these anymore.   And what are the prisoner numbers now?  And who are these prisoners?   Very interesting post.

How foolish can those drug peddling criminals get on putting their stash in their own luggage on a plane !??!!....over consumption of that junk definately removes their elementary sense.

Hi, thank you for sharing your personal experience related to Thai prison.

I tried to find out, but foreign convicts' demography looked obscure.

Couldn't find breakdown(nationality by nationality).

But it won't be anywhere near 10 years.  Cannabis is 'legal' in Thailand. Azeem is only charged under Thai law for exporting controlled herbs without permits.

Let the judge/court decide 🤗

Let them all rot in the Bangkok Hilton.

For the Bangkok Hilton Football World Championship 2025, I guess the final game will be England vs. Nigeria.

Referee and Match officials will be some lunatic Swiss guys, who also enjoy some extended holidays. We`ll see, if Gianni Infantino will attend too.

I believe that the total prison population of Thailand is triple that of the UK, a country with pretty much the same population. 250,000 V 80,000.

I suspect a very large proportion of them are prisoners of the war on drugs.

They would have paid off airport baggage handlers at the other end that would wave it through.
A lot of us getting caught in Thailand but not so much at the other end.

"US"? Treading on thin ice there, Malcolm!

Yep, the Mr Big's very seldom get caught, the guys caught here are 'mules', highly expendable.

Appearing in your local cannabis cafe within 48 hours.

Although not stated in the article, I don't think the prescribed penalties for Exporting controlled herbs without a permit are too onerous. Perhaps an AN Forum member knows and could comment.

The real punishment comes later when whomever paid for the drugs wants their money back plus profit. :hit-the-fan:

Over 300 pounds. He was either bold,or high or both. I hope he likes rice soup.

I just don't get it every border has e-x rais and sniffer dogs how do they think to get away with it?

Thailand has 3 times the prison population of the UK, and the population of the 2 countries is about the same.

Ever met a doctor that didn't take drugs? No. I didn't think so.🙃🙃

What's with all the British drug traffickers lately?

Seems strange to me when North Africa, Morocco, Tunisia , bring in tons of the stuff !! You can but it cheaply on any street corner in France for peanuts.   It must certainly be cheaper than Thailand. Also, don’t all those suitcases create suspicion ??? I don’t understand their reason.

Azeem is such a British name these days along with mohammad, achmed, aziz, mustafa and what ever else the garbage names from the invading Muslim forces are calling themselves today,, well lock this sh, tbag up for the next 20 years in our wonderful Bangkok Hilton and save on all his welfare checks,, maybe some poor old lady can get some money for her heating bill this year.

We did this discreetly in the 70s, Thai stick, and things more dangerous. No dogs, no exrays.

Correct because there is no such thing as 'exrays ' But I've been reliably informed there is such things as 'Xrays'

And another five people arrested on 17th March trying to smuggle cannabis, but this time they were caught at Chiang Mai airport.

Three Brits and a couple of American lasses.

A very busy few days for the customs people and the police.
