Thank you very much for your pondered explanation, I will then proceed with the border-run to Cambodia solution.

  • It's possible but you'll have to come to Laos and apply for an e-visa while in the country.  Then go to the embassy and pay for it then wait until they issue the visa which will not likely happen over

  • Possibly but not definitely. It's been happening more often lately. If you can find an "agent" to handle everything you can avoid it.

A border run for a new entry (it's not an extension) might be better but to Laos you may still need to stay 2 nights in the country, not the worst thing you could do tbh.

You are asking about obtaining a SETV e-Visa in Laos to obtain a 60 day stamp!

That would be crazy.

Where are you located?

You would do a border run using a minivan agent company.

Recently reports from very safe crossings such as Nong Khai requiring 1-2 night stay.

Depending on location in Thailand best to use border run company agent

is an "Outbound flight to country of origin by paying the ticket already" really needed?

pardon me everyone , what I understand by borderun is to go into laos and then back into thai for another visa extension

Read your own thread title.

You ask about obtaining a 60 day VISA from Thai Embassy.

That equates to tourist visa.

What you actually are asking about is border bounce for 60 day visa exempt stamp.

And now you refer to 60 day extension.

You are not obtaining an extension.

You are obtaining a 60 day visa exempt entry.

No stated limit to border runs however immigration can start to make it difficult as illustrated in post above requiring various requirements.

I am considering both options but if getting a 60 day visa is too much trouble I will get the visa exempt entry  .  i pardon me i dont reallly know the terms

Both options provide a 60 day stamp.

Obtaining an e-Visa (tourist) may take days and for what advantage.

Do the border bounce.

Location in Thailand?

The thread is about border runs

What are you referring to in outbound flight requirement .

Look at the text on the picture attached. Other agencies providing visa runs from CMai=>Chiang Kong => Friendship Bridge also mention that visa-runners must have outbound flight tickets

Have not seen report of that being enforced.

If it is then step away and book rent a ticket here "onward ticket.com"

$16usd.

I've seen many people mention it being enforced.  Mostly at Chiang Khong.

... and "proof of payment," so cannot use "rent a ticket" services.  Note they also say return to passport-country ticket, which does not follow official regulations (ticket to anywhere outside Thailand should be OK).

They are making this up, to encourage use of their agent-service partners - at which point, NONE of the requirements are enforced - similar to many extensions in-country.

Although one is unlikely to have all those "requirements" enforced at most crossings, anyone making a border-run without an agent-service should be prepared to stay out 2+ nights, be able to purchase a fully-refundable ticket to their passport-country, and able to purchase a hotel-booking in Thailand, if/when demanded.  Also, have the 10K baht worth of cash to show.

"I left my money-cards with my wife/gf," or "in my condo" or whatever won't cut it.  Prepare for the worst, and be pleasantly-surprised if things are easy.  That is my strategy with EVERY interaction with Thai immigration - even for "no problems reported" things.

"Expected Outcomes" not being met is a source of stress and disappointment, so don't set yourself up to suffer, folks.  Always have a "Plan B," and a "Plan C."  Don't "expect" fairness, consistency, or compassion - EVER.

Hello, sorry for piggy-backing on this thread.
I just had two extended VEs back to back (I exited Thailand through NongKhai to Vientiane where I took a plane straight back to Bangkok DMK), 180 days altogether. My (2nd) extended visa exemption will expire on the first week of April, and I will be around here before going back to work in Switzerland in June.
I understand now that I took a risk flying back, especially on the same day. What are my chances of doing a border run in Nong Khai (and staying in Vientiane the two-three nights I just learned about, this time) ? Would I have better chances if I applied for an SETV in Vientiane, then crossing in NongKhai ?

Why Nong Khai.

Where are you located

Because I figured I should come back into Thailand by land rather than flying back, and because I am just used to cross the border there. I am located in Rayong.

You're playing with fire.  You don't have good chances coming back in any way on your own.  6 continuous months in Thailand, you are not a tourist.  Use a border bounce agency or risk being denied entry and not being allowed back into Thailand.

Is that a typo.

If located Rayong you would do border bounce using one of the agent companies located Pattaya.

They run to Cambodia. No issue.

BTW: The idea of exit and reenter via air same day is crazy given your history.

I was afraid of that, which is why I am posting here. I can spend the next three months in Lao or Vietnam, but my girlfriend can't leave her job and come with me so I hoped it would be possible to come back.
The many many previous years, I stayed 2 visas exempt (border runs in Lao) + 1 Single Entry Tourist Visa (made in Vientiane) for a total of 7 months per year. May I ask what a "border bounce agency" is, compared to visa agencies ?

Same Same.

This is all news to you having stayed in Thailand so often.

So to be clear ....are you located in Rayong?

That makes little sense to go to Nong Khai
